Data Engineer
Summary
The Data Engineer will develop machine learning models for water leakage detection and maintain data pipelines within an R&D team. The role involves working with Python, SQL, NoSQL, and Linux environments to integrate sensor data and troubleshoot quality issues.
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Data Engineer to join our R&D team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in data analytic and machine learning development within an innovating start-up.
Job duties- Analyse characteristics of water-use data
- Develop algorithms and machine learning models for water leakage detection, anomalous pattern detection, and end-use disaggregation
- Maintain and improve data pipelines, platform performance, and reliability
- Support integration of third-party sensors and smart water meters into the analytics backend
- Work closely with hardware team to troubleshoot data quality issues
- Master’s degree or above in Data Science, Data Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline is preferrable (Candidate holding a bachelor’s degree with relevant working experience will also be considered)
- 2–3 years of solid working experiences in data analytics or machine learning
- Strong proficiency in Python programming, SQL and NoSQL databases, and Linux environments (e.g., PostgreSQL, Ubuntu)
- Proven hands‑on experience with using Python backend frameworks (e.g., Django)
- Highly self‑motivated and capable of managing tasks with minimal supervision and able to work independently and under pressure
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to stakeholders
- Able to work independently and with a team
- Location: Hong Kong
- Working days: 5 days per week (Flexible working hours)
- Working hours: 40 hours per week
