Data Engineer
LAKEORA is a Riyadh-based data and AI advisory firm and a pure-play Databricks partner. We build the governed data platforms that Saudi enterprises run their decisions on, going deep on one platform rather than wide across many, with governance designed in from the start. We are early-stage, flat, and deliberately small. You work directly with customers, own the architecture you design, and see it reach production. We like engineers who are direct, curious, and would rather get something right than get it agreed.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for a Data Engineer with strong data fundamentals and the drive to grow into Databricks delivery fast. You don't need deep Databricks experience yet, but you should know your way around SQL, Python, and how data pipelines actually work.
At Lakeora, engineers are client-facing by design. Early on you'll support discovery sessions and demos, learn directly from senior engineers on live client work, and take ownership of real pipeline components. Lean team, high visibility, real impact.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain data pipelines using Spark (PySpark and SQL) on Databricks, under the guidance of senior engineers
Support technical discovery sessions, capturing requirements and helping document findings
Contribute to technical demos and client deliverables, growing toward presenting independently
Translate defined requirements into working pipeline components and transformations
Apply sound engineering practices: code reviews, unit testing, Git, and Agile delivery
Troubleshoot data quality and pipeline issues with increasing independence
Stay current on Databricks, Data, GenAI and AI through hands-on learning and team knowledge-sharing
Qualifications
Required:
1-3 years of data engineering experience, or a strong portfolio of relevant projects
Solid SQL fundamentals, conceptually not just syntax
Working Python experience, ideally including PySpark or a clear ability to pick it up quickly
Understanding of core data engineering concepts: data modeling, ETL/ELT, and pipeline design
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Experience with version control (Git)
Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with people directly
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field
Preferred:
Exposure to Databricks concepts such as Lakehouse, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog
Hands-on experience with any Databricks tooling (Lakeflow Jobs, Declarative Pipelines, AI/BI Dashboards, Genie)
Databricks certifications (Data Engineer Associate, Data Analyst Associate)
Any consulting, client-facing, or internship delivery experience
Exposure to manufacturing, supply chain, or logistics data domains
Exposure to SDAIA, NDMO and PDPL regulations in Saudi Arabia
Exposure to AI and GenAI (Claude Code, RAG, Agents, ..etc)
If this sounds like the kind of work you want to do, we would like to hear from you. LAKEORA is an equal opportunity employer and assesses every application on merit.
