Data Engineer
About Merapar
Merapar is an international technology and software engineering organisation that helps organisations turn complex technology into reliable, high-performing platforms. With deep expertise in cloud, data and AI, we work for leading clients across Europe, from strategy to production-ready delivery.
We are becoming an AI-first organisation. That means we use AI in how we build, test and deliver software for our clients, and in how we work ourselves. We are looking for people who want to help shape that.
The role
As a Data Engineer you design, build and maintain secure, compliant data platforms and lakehouses for our clients. You combine deep technical expertise with strong communication skills, and you explain complex technical choices clearly to non-technical stakeholders and clients.
AI is part of your work. The platforms you build feed AI and ML models in production, and you use AI tools to work faster yourself.
What you will do
- Design and build data lakehouse solutions on AWS, using services such as S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift and Lake Formation
- Build and maintain data pipelines with a strong focus on data quality, security and compliance
- Build data platforms, feature stores and pipelines that feed AI and ML models in production
- Set up data governance, with special attention to protecting personal data (PII) and meeting legal requirements
- Manage data residency, so data stays in the right region and follows rules such as GDPR
- Act as a technical advisor: explain architecture choices, security measures and timelines in plain language
- Manage relationships with client stakeholders, from executives to technical teams, while keeping projects on track
- Work with data analysts, security officers and legal advisors to build solutions that work for everyone involved
What you bring
- Experience designing and building data lakehouse architectures (for example Databricks, Delta Lake or similar tools)
- Hands-on experience with AWS data services
- Good skills in Python, SQL, Scala or similar languages for data engineering
- Experience handling PII data (encryption, masking and access control) and knowledge of GDPR and data residency rules
- Experience with ML pipelines or feature stores in production, and some knowledge of deploying AI or ML models on AWS
- Experience working directly with clients or stakeholders in a consulting role
- You use AI tools in your daily work, or you are keen to learn how they make you and your team better
- You speak and write English and Dutch fluently, and you have the right to work in the Netherlands
Nice to have
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Associate or Professional, Data Analytics Specialty, AI or similar)
- Experience with data governance tools or metadata management platforms
- Experience delivering data solutions to enterprise clients
- Experience in the Telco or Media industry
- Experience with generative AI or LLM applications in data projects, and an understanding of responsible AI principles
What we offer
- A salary of €5,000 – €6,700 per month, based on your experience
- Training and certification in AI, cloud technology and Agile
- Hybrid working, with our office in Veldhoven as home base
- Self-organising teams that work on Agile principles
- Work on modern data platforms with a team of experienced data professionals
