Job Summary

The Data Engineer is primarily responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and support of enterprise reporting solutions using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). The role will also support Microsoft SQL Server database development, ETL processes, system integrations, reporting automation, and secure file transfer solutions.

The successful candidate will work closely with business users and application teams to deliver operational, management, regulatory, and analytical reports while ensuring data accuracy, report performance, and system reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting Solutions Development (Primary Responsibility)

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Convert business requirements into functional and user-friendly reports.
• Develop and optimise report datasets, parameters, subscriptions, and report scheduling.
• Produce operational, management, financial, regulatory, and ad-hoc reports.
• Troubleshoot report performance and optimise data retrieval efficiency.
• Work directly with stakeholders to gather and analyse reporting requirements.
• Ensure report accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.

Database Development & Support

• Develop and maintain Microsoft SQL Server database objects including:
• Stored Procedures
• Functions
• Views
• Triggers
• Create and optimise T-SQL scripts to support reporting and integration requirements.
• Perform query analysis and performance tuning.
• Support production database troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Monitor and support SQL Server Agent jobs.

ETL & Data Integration

• Develop and maintain ETL processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
• Support data extraction, transformation, and loading activities.
• Develop and maintain system interfaces and integration processes.
• Perform data validation and reconciliation across source and target systems.
• Troubleshoot integration and data transfer issues.

Automation, Secure File Transfer & Encryption

• Develop operational and monitoring scripts using PowerShell.
• Support automated file transfers via SSH/SFTP.
• Support data encryption and decryption processes using PGP/GPG.
• Automate reporting and file processing activities.
• Monitor and support batch processing activities.

Production Support

• Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for reporting, database, and integration-related incidents.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
• Support deployment, change management, and disaster recovery activities.
• Ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).

Documentation & Governance

• Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Prepare report specifications, data mappings, and support documentation.
• Ensure compliance with internal security, audit, and governance standards.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or related disciplines.

Experience

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server technologies.
• Experience supporting production reporting environments.
• Banking or financial services experience is an advantage.

A reporting-focused Data Engineer with strong SSRS development experience, solid MSSQL and SSIS skills, and practical exposure to system integration, PowerShell automation, SFTP file transfers, and PGP/GPG encryption, capable of supporting both project delivery and production operations in a banking or enterprise environment.
