Data Engineering Manager, Audience Lifecycle
Summary
Lead a team of data engineers to build and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for audience lifecycle management using cloud platforms like GCP/AWS and tools like BigQuery and Looker.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and coach a team of Software Engineers, investing in career growth and psychological safety
- Lead recruitment, hiring, and structured onboarding for the engineering team
- Partner with product managers, UX designers, data analysts, and editorial partners
- Lead technical planning, scoping, and execution using Agile ceremonies
- Conduct software design and code reviews to maintain architectural integrity and security
- Implement engineering workflow improvements and automation to optimize developer experience
- Oversee response to critical production bugs or infrastructure incidents
- Coordinate workflows and deliverables for external contributors and vendors
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience managing or leading data engineers in an agile organization
- Prior experience as an individual contributor shipping code for large-scale data applications
- Experience with GCP, AWS, or similar cloud platforms
- Experience managing high availability, distributed, and fault-tolerant applications
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one general-purpose language like Python
- Hands-on experience with modern version control systems like Git
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing both internal employees and external agency vendors
- Experience implementing and maintaining data lakes, warehouses, and ingestion pipelines
- Experience with Salesforce, BigQuery, and Looker
- Experience with audience segmentation or marketing data infrastructure at scale
