Data Engineering Team Lead
Summary
Leads and owns the data engineering capability for a technology business recruited via TheDriveGroup, architecting a Snowflake-centric cloud data platform and driving an AWS-to-Azure migration. The role is ~70% hands-on pipeline/platform engineering with ~30% technical leadership, mentoring and architecture. Fully remote (Brisbane preferred), $190k-$200k + super.
We're working with a growing technology business looking for an experienced Data Engineering Team Lead to take ownership of its data engineering capability and help shape the future of its cloud data platform.
With a transition from AWS to Azure underway, this is an opportunity to lead from the front, combining hands-on engineering with architecture, solution design and technical leadership.
You'll have genuine ownership over technical decisions, platform design and engineering standards, while remaining closely involved in delivery.
Location: Brisbane preferred (Fully Remote)
Salary: $190k-$200k + Super
What You'll Do
- Lead the design, architecture and development of scalable cloud data solutions.
- Take technical ownership of the data platform, with Snowflake playing a central role.
- Help architect and deliver the transition from AWS to Azure.
- Remain hands-on across data engineering, pipelines, integrations and platform development.
- Establish engineering standards, best practices and scalable design patterns.
- Provide technical direction, mentoring and guidance to other engineers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Balance approximately 70% hands-on technical delivery with 30% technical leadership and broader responsibilities.
What You'll Bring
- Strong commercial experience in Data Engineering, ideally at Senior, Lead or Principal level.
- Strong Snowflake experience, including platform design, data modelling and engineering.
- Solid Azure data engineering experience, ideally with exposure to AWS.
- Proven experience designing and architecting cloud-based data platforms.
- Strong SQL, Python and modern data pipeline development experience.
- Confidence making architectural decisions while remaining hands-on with engineering delivery.
- Previous technical leadership experience, with people management experience highly regarded.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
