Database Reliability Engineer

Your new role:
As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer, you will take ownership of the reliability, performance and security of PostgreSQL database environments. This is a hands-on role combining traditional DBA expertise with modern DevOps and infrastructure engineering practices across AWS.

Responsibilities:

• Manage, maintain and optimise AWS Aurora PostgreSQL environments for availability, performance and security
• Design and implement PostgreSQL solutions using AWS CDK and CI/CD pipelines
• Manage AWS infrastructure using CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform
• Administer PostGIS and PostgreSQL extensions, including trusted language extensions
• Design and maintain disaster recovery orchestration, automated testing and reporting
• Monitor and benchmark database performance and develop tooling to identify optimisation opportunities
• Maintain robust backup and recovery processes to protect data integrity and resilience
• Troubleshoot production database issues including permissions, indexing and query performance
• Support legacy database and system migrations, including compatibility and data integrity validation
• Support migration rehearsals, production cutovers, go lives and rollback planning
• Collaborate closely with developers, DevOps engineers, Product Owners and other technology teams

Requirements:

• Strong commercial experience as a Database Administrator or Database Reliability Engineer
• Deep expertise with PostgreSQL in production environments
• Strong AWS experience, particularly RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL
• Practical experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform
• Experience with CI/CD and database automation
• Experience with PostGIS and spatial or geospatial databases
• Scripting experience using Python, Bash or similar
• Strong knowledge of database performance, security, backup, recovery and disaster recovery
• Experience troubleshooting production database incidents and support requests
• Experience working within Agile environments, with SAFe exposure advantageous
• Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within cross functional teams
• Flexibility to occasionally support planned production cutovers outside standard business hours
