Designer III
Summary
A mechanical CAD designer at Alto-Shaam who creates and maintains SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and production drawings to support new product development and engineering change orders. Day to day includes design checks, BOM management, GD&T-compliant drawings, and partnering with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain on DFM/A and cost optimization.
The ideal candidate for a Designer III would be able to do the following:
Create and maintain parts, assemblies, and production drawings in SolidWorks in support of NPD programs and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
Translate product requirements into detailed design solutions that meet performance, cost, timing and quality targets
Execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) with an understanding of downstream impacts, ensuring compliance with engineering standards
Function as an integrated member of the Design Team, following the guidance of senior members of the team and Engineers
Prepare top-level CAD models for, and lead, cross-functional design reviews and virtual builds
Perform basic design checks including: interference checks, clearance checks, and motion studies (as applicable)
Own drawing quality and adherence to GD&T and company/industry standards
Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing/Operations, and Supply Chain to support DFM/A and cost optimization efforts
Maintain and manage BOM structures with high accuracy
Contribute to design standards, libraries, and best practices+
For a candidate to be successful as a Sr. Designer they must have:
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design or Engineering-related field is a plus
5+ years of experience in mechanical design and drafting
Proficiency in computer-aided drafting techniques and standard engineering practices, with the capacity to suggest best-practice improvements
Proficiency with SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD); PDM experience is a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including sheet metal fabrication and injection molding
Solid engineering judgment and problem-solving capability
Ability to manage multiple activities and meet target dates
Effective communication across technical and non-technical teams
