DevOps Developer

DRA Global is seeking an experienced DevOps Developer to join our Shared Services team based in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

Overview

We are expanding our Platform Engineering capability and invite applications for a skilled DevOps Developer to enhance software engineering practises organisation-wide. This pivotal role focuses on driving Agile and DevOps adoption throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), with an emphasis on continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), automation, software quality, security, governance, and scalable software delivery.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned software development professional with hands-on expertise, strong DevOps acumen, proficiency in Microsoft technologies, and a thorough understanding of software engineering governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Software Engineering & Governance: Design, develop, implement and continuously improve Software Engineering, SDLC, Agile, and DevOps standards and frameworks.
• CI/CD Pipeline Management: Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated build processes, testing, deployments, and environment promotion.
• Platform Development: Develop and maintain DRA Global’s internal software development platform, including reusable templates, libraries, components, and engineering patterns.
• Source Control Management: Establish and enforce source control, branching, pull request, code review, and repository standards.
• Quality & Security Controls: Implement automated quality gates, static code analysis, dependency scanning, security scanning, and testing controls.
• Code Review & Technical Oversight: Conduct technical and code reviews across professionally developed, citizen-developed, and AI-assisted solutions.
• Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain code-signing, secrets management, certificate management, and software supply-chain controls.
• Standards Enforcement: Drive consistent standards across architecture, coding, documentation, testing, monitoring, logging, security, maintainability, and operational support.
• Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Provide technical guidance and mentoring to developers, promoting software engineering best practises.
• AI-Assisted Development Compliance: Ensure AI-assisted development complies fully with DRA Global’s SDLC, security, architecture, testing, and governance policies.
• Collaboration: Work closely with Platform Engineering, Business Systems, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and other IT teams to enhance integrated software delivery.
• Process Improvement: Identify and eliminate bottlenecks, manual hand-offs, and inefficiencies within the SDLC.
• Incident Support: Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement related to software releases and development platform services.
• Citizen Development Governance: Support and govern citizen development through approved environments, reusable components, tooling, and engineering guidance.
• Technology Evaluation: Assess emerging DevOps, AI, software development, and automation technologies for potential application within DRA Global.
• Automation Enhancement: Increase automation across the SDLC and assist in translating engineering policies into measurable, automated controls.
• Engineering Metrics: Support metrics related to deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, automated testing, code quality, pipeline adoption, and SDLC compliance.

Qualifications

• Matric certificate.
• BSc degree in Information Technology, Computing or a closely related field.
• Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert certification is advantageous.
• Certification in Agile, Scrum or SAFe is advantageous.

Experience

The successful candidate will have:

• At least 5 years’ software development experience.
• At least 5 years’ experience in MS SQL Server development.
• A minimum of 4 years’ experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps and other CI/CD tools.
• At least 4 years’ experience working within Microsoft development environments.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience with AI-assisted software development.
• At least 5 years’ demonstrated experience in IT technical services, standards and methodologies.
• At least 5 years’ advanced knowledge of systems and data security.
• At least 5 years’ experience with programming languages and software development frameworks.
• Strong experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced server environments.
• Microsoft Power Platform.
• PowerShell or other scripting languages.

Technical Knowledge

Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge and practical experience in:

• Microsoft SQL Server.
• Relational databases and software development frameworks.
• Software Development Life Cycle principles and governance.
• Microsoft Azure DevOps and CI/CD methodologies.
• Programming languages including Python, C# and VB.
• IT security protocols, policies, processes and standards.
• AI development tools and AI governance.
• Automated testing, deployment and software quality controls.
• Source control, code reviews and repository governance.
• Software engineering documentation and standards.

Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, monitoring technologies and Microsoft Power Platform is desirable.

About the Role

This is a technically hands-on position requiring an individual capable of working across software development, DevOps, platform engineering and governance functions.

The successful candidate will challenge inefficient development practises, introduce practical automation and engineering controls, and foster an environment where secure, scalable and maintainable software can be developed and deployed efficiently organisation-wide.
