Job Summary- The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and accounting team. Reporting to the President, this position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while developing scalable processes, systems, and controls to support continued company growth.
The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting leader who can balance hands-on technical accounting with strategic leadership, process improvement, and effective partnership with operational and executive leadership.

- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and oversee consolidated financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and other key accounting activities to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Analyze financial results, trends, and variances and provide meaningful financial insight to the President and senior leadership.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Establish appropriate segregation of duties, approval authorities, documentation standards, and financial controls.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial and regulatory requirements.
- Identify financial and operational risks and implement appropriate controls and corrective actions.
- Lead the annual financial statement audit and serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors.
- Coordinate audit schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to audit inquiries.
- Partner with external tax advisors on federal, state, and local tax filings and oversee sales/use tax, property tax, and other applicable tax requirements.
- Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and other external financial service providers.
- Support the President in managing cash flow, liquidity, banking relationships, and treasury activities.
- Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and other working capital metrics.
- Partner with operational leaders to improve collections and working capital management.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting and ensure actual results are accurately reflected and understood relative to budgets and forecasts.
- Provide financial guidance and analysis for business initiatives, investments, acquisitions, system implementations, and other strategic projects.
- Evaluate accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, automation, and scalability.
- Lead improvements to the financial close process, with an emphasis on efficiency while maintaining strong internal controls.
- Optimize the use of ERP, accounting, expense management, and financial reporting systems.
- Partner with IT and other departments on financial system implementations and integrations.
- Establish consistent accounting processes and reporting standards across business units, locations, and legal entities.
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, continuous improvement, and service.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, performance expectations, and development opportunities for accounting team members.
- Evaluate organizational structure and staffing needs as the company grows.
- Develop cross-training and documented procedures to strengthen continuity within the accounting function.
- Serve as the technical accounting resource and escalation point for the accounting team.

Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 8–12+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end close processes and external financial statement audits.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective internal controls.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting professionals.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership responsibilities with hands-on involvement when necessary.
- Strong proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- CPA certification or equivalent professional accounting credential.
- Public accounting experience.
- Experience in a multi-entity or multi-location organization.
- Experience with acquisitions, integrations, or significant organizational growth.
- Experience improving or implementing ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Experience in a private equity-backed, acquisitive, or rapidly growing organization.
