As a member of the hotel’s Leadership Committee, the Director of Hotel Facilities is a highly visible and influential role with exposure to senior property leadership and Hyatt corporate teams. This position reports directly to the General Manager and plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, well-maintained, and operationally efficient environment for both guests and colleagues.
This is an on-property leadership role at a managed Hyatt property, requiring a hands-on, strategic leader who can balance day-to-day engineering operations with long-term capital planning and asset protection.
Position Overview
The Director of Hotel Facilities is responsible for the overall leadership and operation of the Engineering and Facilities department. This includes maintaining the hotel's physical assets, ensuring all building systems function effectively, and supporting the property’s goals through proactive maintenance, safety compliance, and strategic project management.
This role requires strong technical expertise, independent decision-making, and collaboration across departments. The ideal candidate brings a solutions-oriented mindset, strong leadership presence, and a commitment to Hyatt’s service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, develop, and support the Engineering team, fostering a culture aligned with Hyatt’s service standards and safety expectations
Oversee the maintenance and appearance of the hotel, including guest rooms, public spaces, exterior areas, and back-of-house operations
Ensure proper functioning and upkeep of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems
Conduct and oversee routine safety inspections, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
Respond to emergency situations and implement preventative maintenance strategies to minimize operational disruptions
Partner with Corporate Facilities and ownership on capital projects, renovations, and long-term asset planning
Manage vendor relationships, including reviewing and negotiating contracts with suppliers, consultants, and subcontractors
Plan, coordinate, and direct maintenance and construction-related activities across the property
Interpret construction plans and contracts, communicating effectively with internal teams and external partners
Oversee purchasing and inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment
Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, including forecasting and cost control initiatives
Implement and maintain quality control programs to ensure high standards of workmanship and service delivery
Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Collaborate with city officials, inspectors, and design committees as needed
Maintain clear and consistent communication with Hyatt Corporate teams
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, sustainability, and the overall guest experience
Qualifications
Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in hotel or facilities management, including experience in a senior leadership role
Proven leadership ability with a track record of developing high-performing teams
Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance practices
Experience managing capital projects, renovations, and vendor relationships
Prior hotel pre-opening experience is highly preferred
Experience managing utility systems and cost optimization initiatives
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
Service-oriented leadership style with strong presentation and communication skills
Highly organized with strong financial acumen, including budget development and cost tracking
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Key strengths include high energy, strategic thinking, accountability, and the ability to drive results while maintaining a people-first approach
Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills in English
