Director of Product Management, Cybersecurity

Earn credibility with security practitioners. Set a clear product direction. Build a team that delivers.

Why You’ll Actually Care

The best cybersecurity products earn their place in a customer’s environment. They help security teams make better decisions, address meaningful risks, and act with greater confidence when the stakes are high.

District Partners is supporting a cybersecurity company seeking a Director of Product Management to connect that customer reality with product strategy, technical execution, and commercial opportunity.

This is an opportunity to influence what gets built, why it deserves investment, and how it creates value. You’ll lead and develop Product Managers while staying close enough to customers, technology, and delivery to make informed decisions yourself. The mandate spans the product and the people behind it: strengthen the strategy, sharpen the priorities, and build a team capable of carrying both forward.

For an experienced cybersecurity product leader, the appeal is meaningful ownership. You’ll bring a point of view, challenge assumptions, and help translate complex security problems into products customers choose, adopt, and continue to value.

The Basics

This role combines product strategy, direct people leadership, and hands-on engagement across the product lifecycle. You’ll connect customer discovery, roadmap decisions, engineering investment, and go-to-market execution while keeping the team focused on measurable outcomes.

Success requires technical credibility and commercial judgment. You should be comfortable exploring a security workflow with a practitioner, debating a tradeoff with Engineering, coaching a Product Manager through an ambiguous decision, and explaining an investment recommendation to executive leadership.

The expectation is to lead through informed judgment, clear priorities, and a strong understanding of the customer.

Where You’ll Make Your Mark

  • Shape product strategy and investment. Build a clear perspective on customer problems, market opportunities, and competitive alternatives. Translate that perspective into a focused roadmap with a compelling rationale for what moves forward.
  • Develop Product Managers into stronger leaders. Coach customer discovery, technical fluency, prioritization, and execution. Establish clear ownership and help the team make sound decisions with increasing independence.
  • Bring the customer into product decisions. Build relationships with enterprise customers and security practitioners. Understand their environments, operational constraints, evaluation criteria, and the problems that matter enough to solve.
  • Turn technical complexity into useful capabilities. Work closely with Engineering and security specialists to assess feasibility, weigh tradeoffs, and define solutions that fit how customers actually work.
  • Own the full product lifecycle. Connect discovery and validation with delivery, launch, adoption, and ongoing improvement. Stay accountable for what happens after a capability ships.
  • Strengthen the commercial story. Collaborate with customer-facing teams on positioning, differentiation, launches, and feedback. Help articulate why a capability matters, who it serves, and how its value can be demonstrated.
  • Make success measurable. Establish meaningful measures of adoption, customer value, and commercial performance. Use evidence to refine priorities and revisit assumptions.
  • Build alignment around consequential decisions. Give executive leadership clear recommendations on product direction, investment, and tradeoffs, supported by customer insight and business reasoning.

What You Bring to the Table

  • A substantial track record owning commercial B2B cybersecurity products, with clear examples of decisions that improved customer or business outcomes.
  • Direct experience managing and developing Product Managers, including coaching their judgment and holding them accountable for results.
  • Strong technical fluency and the ability to earn credibility with engineers, security specialists, and enterprise customers.
  • Experience turning complex security needs into clear product requirements, differentiated capabilities, and achievable roadmaps.
  • Ownership across discovery, delivery, launch, and ongoing product improvement.
  • Commercial judgment that connects product decisions with adoption, customer value, and business performance.
  • Confidence making difficult prioritization decisions and explaining what the team should pursue, defer, or stop.
  • An ability to influence across functions, resolve competing perspectives, and communicate clearly with executive leadership.

The Technical Depth That Matters

Cybersecurity product leadership is essential. You should understand how security solutions function, how they fit into enterprise environments, and how practitioners evaluate their usefulness.

That means being able to explore workflows, integrations, deployment considerations, and technical constraints with enough depth to ask productive questions and make informed tradeoffs. You should be equally comfortable understanding the underlying capability and explaining its practical value to a customer.

Experience in security engineering, software development, architecture, or research is valuable. A previous engineering title is not required; demonstrated technical depth and strong product judgment are.

Why Make the Move?

For someone already established in cybersecurity product management, the draw is the combination of strategic influence, team leadership, and proximity to the work.

You’ll shape product direction, develop the next layer of product talent, and maintain a direct connection to the customers whose needs guide the roadmap. It’s an opportunity to bring your experience and perspective to decisions that matter, with accountability for turning those decisions into results.
