  • WSP is seeking an Assistant Consultants to join our large and growing technical support team.
  • The successful applicant will lead a team of data handling professionals who will be part of WSP GCC Ecology Team, delivering the highest standards of technical work and aiding the continued success of the ecology business by assisting us in our client focused delivery of projects.
  • The work will be focused on providing data handling support, including GIS deliverables and data analysis of raw survey information gathered by ecologists in the mentioned region's team. Deliverables will be used in reports and assessments provided to our clients for a range of different commercial and scientific sectors.
  • Handling, sorting and preparation of data sets.
  • Preparation of ecological cartography (e.g. plans to show habitat types or species distributions) to nationally recognised standards.
  • Calculating habitat losses and gains through spatial data sets.
  • Preparing supporting information for investigations of mentioned region's Protected Species.
  • Preparing habitat mitigation and/or compensation design plans.
  • Undertaking analysis of bat survey data including sounds analysis to identify species and behaviours from sonograms.
  • Managing, interpreting and manipulating large data sets.
  • Creation of geospatial data templates for use with tablets, online portals and GIS Reader software.
  • Purchase and maintain datasets including OS Mapping and non-publicly available data, adhering to 3rd party licensing agreements.
  • Actively promoting knowledge sharing with an inclusive nature, developing working relations with all aspects of WSP, gaining internal clients along the way.
  • Generation of figures for inclusion in publications and public consultations.
  • Detailed information assisting deliver legal requirements of licensing.
  • Material supporting marketing and bidding.

Mandatory Skills

  • Have experience of handling and managing data sets for analysis.
  • Have experience of using GIS software and techniques, for example use of ArcGIS, QGIS, Spatial Analyst.
  • Are skilled and experienced in spatial data analysis.
  • Are a good team worker with excellent attention to details.
  • Are confident and highly motivated, with good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of Ecological Consultancy or working within the field of conservation.
  • Database management.
  • Spatial Analysis including Statistical Analysis.
  • Google maps, Google Earth Professional.
  • Acoustic bat analysis.
  • Photoshop or similar.
  • Microsoft Applications.

Qualifications

  • Have an appropriate academic qualification in an environmental, data handling or related discipline.

BGV:
