Summary

Performs echocardiograms and stress tests to diagnose cardiac issues, documents findings, and maintains ultrasound equipment in an outpatient clinic.

The Echocardiographer - Clinic performs echocardiograms and related stress exams and calculates measurements to obtain data used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with possible cardiac related symptoms in the outpatient clinic setting.
  • Performs standard and advanced echocardiography procedures and stress testing on adult patients.
  • Ensures that all quality accuracy parameters are within department quality and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards prior to the completion of the exam. Observes and evaluates data for abnormalities and informs medical staff of any critical abnormality.
  • Accurately creates preliminary reports in cardiology department reporting system for all procedures performed according to Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards. Correctly documents charges for charge capture and inventory control. Performs other departmental documentation and duties.
  • Participates in the introduction and implementation of new procedures and protocols and in the evaluation of new imaging equipment. Reviews, evaluates and reports daily operational status of equipment. Cleans and restores equipment after use. Ensures safety and security of all equipment. Adheres to department productivity standards. Follows high level disinfection policies and procedures, and protocols for ultrasound probes and maintains accurate records.
  • Maintains departmental supply levels and is responsible for replacing supplies in a timely manner.
  • Provides troubleshooting knowledge and resources of information to cardiology staff members. Performs preventative maintenance as necessary, coordinates with cardiology clinic management for manufacturer's service calls.
  • Participates in and provides training and orientation to all cardiology staff members for all diagnostic procedures and protocols within the department. Functions in a lead role for physicians and staff.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

Minimum:

  • Graduate from an accredited cardiac sonography program.



CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Minimum:

  • Registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Cardiac Sonographer.American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)


Preferred:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).



TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum:

  • Operational knowledge of echocardiography and electrocardiographic equipment. Knowledge of basic human anatomy and a thorough knowledge of cardiac anatomy. Knowledge of basic and advanced arrhythmias. Ability to operate computers



YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred:

  • 1 year of experience in performing echocardiograms and other department-related diagnostic cardiac procedures.
