EFA Engineer (Failure Analysis)

The EFA Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering ownership for Electrical Failure Analysis (EFA) supporting NPI, qualification builds, and high volume manufacturing (HVM).


This role is expected to demonstrate independent engineering judgment, supervisory leadership, and cross functional influence. In addition to owning complex EFA investigation, the engineer ensures FA readiness for new products, including tooling, kits, and capability assessments aligned with APTD knowledge transfer. .

The EFA Engineer acts as the technical focal point across shifts, ensuring analysis quality, consistency, and timely decision making while driving systemic improvements to reduce recurring SBL events.

Key Responsibilities

1) Supervision & People Leadership (Shift Technician Management)

  • Partner with APTD teams during product transfer to acquire and institutionalize EFA and PFA knowledge.

  • Translate APTD knowledge into manufacturing‑ready FA strategies, screening plans, and disposition guidelines.

  • Ensure FA lab readiness (tools, kits, methods, documentation, and technician training) prior to HVM ramp.

  • Own EFA kit definition and readiness for NPI products.

2) Electrical Failure Analysis (EFA) – Engineering Depth

  • Apply advanced FA tools (e.g., IV curve tracer, micro-prober, bench tester) and interpret results holistically.

  • Perform cross‑correlation of ATE data, bench measurements, and FA findings.

  • Support complex assembly‑related failures and high‑impact escalations.

  • Coach and mentor technicians on EFA techniques, fixing approaches, and data interpretation.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or other related field

  • Experience in failure analysis, test engineering support, or manufacturing troubleshooting

  • Proven track record to translate data into sound engineering decisions.

  • Willingness to provide off‑hour support for critical issues impacting shift operations (as needed).

  • Leverage Microsoft Copilot and other approved AI solutions to improve efficiency and decision-making.

  • Apply AI assisted methods to accelerate learning cycles, troubleshooting, and technical investigations.

  • Strong analytical, logical, and critical thinking skills

  • Effective communicator, able to collaborate across all levels

  • Growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning

  • Internship or experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus

  • Demonstrated leadership and a track record of impact are highly desirable

  • Interest in and knowledge of the semiconductor industry and Micron
