Electrical Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Job Summary

Vertiv is seeking a Electrical Engineering Intern to support the IT Solutions engineering team in the design, testing, and validation of power distribution and electrical systems for rack- and row-based infrastructure products supporting high-density compute and AI-driven data center applications.

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with architecture, system integration, and industry compliance standards while supporting senior engineers through the new product development lifecycle. You will work in a fast-paced, growing business unit building next-generation data center infrastructure.

Why This Role is Exciting

· Direct exposure to next-generation data center and AI infrastructure solutions

· Hands-on experience in a lab environment — building, testing, and validating real hardware

· Work alongside experienced engineers across electrical, mechanical, thermal, and controls disciplines

· Meaningful project ownership — not just observation

· Opportunity to learn electrical design standards, compliance, and system-level thinking at Vertiv

Key Responsibilities

1.Design Support & Testing

· Assist with electrical design reviews and provide feedback on power distribution systems

· Support component selection, evaluation, and specification activities

· Build and validate prototypes in the engineering lab

· Perform electrical testing and document test results with clear, thorough reporting

2.Documentation & Analysis

· Assist with the development and maintenance of electrical schematics and drawings

· Support power distribution and load calculations

· Help document engineering study results, DVT summaries, and design feedback

· Maintain organized test data, lab records, and engineering files

3.Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Work alongside senior electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineers on integrated system designs

· Participate in cross-functional design reviews and team meetings

· Support manufacturing and production teams during factory integration and testing activities

4.Learning & Development

· Gain exposure to industry compliance standards (NEC, UL/IEC 62368-1, IEC 60364, IEC 61000)

· Learn system-level electrical architecture for rack- and row-based infrastructure

· Develop problem-solving skills through real-world engineering challenges

· Present project results and findings at internship showcase events

Qualifications

Required

· Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field

· Completed at least sophomore year of coursework

· Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, power systems, and electronics

· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

· Ability to work hands-on in a lab environment

· Effective communication skills — written and verbal

· Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and ask questions

Preferred

· Interest in power systems, power electronics, or power distribution design

· Coursework or projects in power engineering, controls, or embedded systems

· Familiarity with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers)

· Exposure to electrical CAD tools (AutoCAD, Creo, or similar)

· Previous co-op, internship, or project experience in a hardware engineering environment

What We’re Looking For

· A curious, hands-on learner eager to work in a multidisciplinary engineering environment

· Someone who takes ownership of their work and delivers results

· A team player who communicates clearly and collaborates well with experienced engineers

· A self-starter who isn't afraid to ask questions and dig into complex problems
