Embedded Firmware Engineer
Summary
Develops and debugs real-time, low-latency embedded firmware in C for Electric Hydrogen's power electronics and auxiliary electronics — spanning board bring-up, device drivers, control algorithms, and system communications protocols. Works hands-on with lab equipment and collaborates with electrical, power electronics, and controls teams in San Jose.

We are seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to develop real-time firmware for our power electronics products as well as auxiliary (non-power) electronics. This role will work across the full embedded development lifecycle, from board bring-up and driver development through control algorithm implementation and system communications.
This position will work closely with electrical, power electronics, controls, and systems engineering teams to develop reliable embedded solutions for Electric Hydrogen’s products.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and debug low-level, real-time, low-latency firmware in C
- Perform board bring-up, debugging, testing, and code optimization
- Develop and maintain device drivers and hardware interfaces
- Implement control algorithms for power electronics products and auxiliary electronics
- Design and implement protocols for system communications
- Troubleshoot firmware and hardware interactions using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory equipment
- Write and maintain software specifications, design documentation, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with electrical, power electronics, controls, and systems engineers throughout product development and testing
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- For mid-level candidates, 3+ years of professional firmware or embedded software development experience; strong academic, project, or internship experience in embedded systems will be considered for junior-level candidates
- Experience developing low-level embedded firmware in C
- Experience with embedded systems development tools, including compilers, debuggers, and IDEs
- Experience with version control and issue-tracking tools such as Git and Jira
- Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, and Ethernet
- Experience developing device drivers using hardware interfaces such as ADC, GPIO, PWM, UART, SPI, and I2C
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar laboratory equipment
- Knowledge of automated build systems is a plus
- Knowledge of the design and implementation of power electronics control loops is a plus
- Basic knowledge of Linux environments is a plus, particularly for development toolchains, GUIs, build systems, logging, and testing tools

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.
