Engineering Manager, Patient Experience

About Fullscript
We’re an industry-leading health technology company on a mission to help people get better. We started in 2011 with one simple idea. Make it easier for practitioners to access the products they trust so they can deliver better care.
That simple idea grew into a platform that powers every part of care. Today, more than 125,000 practitioners use Fullscript for clinical insights, lab interpretations, patient analytics, education, and access to high-quality supplements. Over 10 million patients rely on Fullscript to stay connected to their care plans and follow through on treatment.
We build tools that make care smarter and more human. Tools that save time, simplify decisions, and help practitioners stay closely connected to the people they care for. When everything they need is in one place, they can focus on what matters most: helping people get better.
This is your invitation.
Bring your ideas, your grit, and your care for people.
Join us and shape the future of care.

The Mission: Care Mode at Fullscript

Fullscript is evolving from a platform patients use to access care into one that helps them actively follow through on it.

What we call Care Mode is at the center of that evolution. It is designed to create a continuous connection between patients and their care teams—helping patients turn recommendations into sustainable actions while giving practitioners greater visibility into what happens between visits.

Our goal is to close the loop from recommendation → engagement → adherence → outcomes, using technology to deepen the connection between patients and their care teams at scale.

This is not engagement for engagement’s sake. It’s about building thoughtful, trusted experiences that help people take the next right step in their care.

The Role

We’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our Patient Experience pod and help shape the technical and product foundations of Care Mode.

This role blends engineering leadership, product thinking, and people leadership. You’ll stay close to the work—contributing to technical design and implementation, navigating difficult engineering decisions, and stepping in when deeper context or hands-on support is needed—while creating the conditions for a strong team to do its best work.

We believe great engineering leaders are builders at heart. You can zoom out to understand strategy and product intent, then zoom back into the implementation when it matters. You bring clarity to ambiguity, raise the bar through example, and create momentum through trust, context, and shared ownership.

The product reflects the team that builds it. This role shapes both.

What You’ll Do

Build and lead

  • Cross-functional team on patient experience; set technical direction in a complex, evolving domain.

  • Stay meaningfully hands-on through system design, code, reviews, prototyping, and solving difficult technical problems.

  • Set technical direction and evolve architecture in a complex, rapidly developing product domain.

  • Lead design discussions where product, engineering, data, and clinical considerations intersect.

Own hard problems

  • Help evolve Fullscript from transactional patient experiences toward a longitudinal, person-centric model of care.

  • Build systems that bring together clinical data, behavioral signals, and real-world patient context.

  • Make deliberate tradeoffs across speed, quality, reliability, safety, and trust.

  • Bring structure and momentum to ambiguous problems without waiting for perfect information.

Raise the bar

  • Establish a high bar for technical and product quality through how you build, review, and make decisions.

  • Create an environment that combines psychological safety with meaningful accountability.

  • Develop engineers through coaching, pairing, feedback, technical debate, and hands-on collaboration.

  • Continually challenge the team to ask: Are we solving the right problem? Is the experience worthy of the people who depend on us?

Collaborate at scale

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Clinical, Data, and Engineering leaders across Fullscript.

  • Influence broader technical direction as Care Mode and patient experiences become increasingly foundational to the Fullscript platform.

  • Champion patient trust, practitioner workflows, and long-term system health in product and technical decisions.

How We Expect You to Think

We’re looking for a builder with high agency, strong judgment, and a fundamentally optimistic view of what technology can make possible.

You:

  • Default to action. When something is unclear, narrow the problem, propose a path, and move — then adjust with data.

  • Enforce a high bar on reliability and trust: bug discipline, instrumentation, dogfooding. Quality is non-negotiable; so is shipping.

  • Take ownership beyond the boundaries of your formal scope.

  • Are comfortable operating in ambiguity and moving forward with incomplete information.

  • Challenge direction thoughtfully when something doesn’t feel right—and help create a better path.

  • Care about outcomes, not simply output.

You’re equally comfortable asking “What should we build?” and “How should we build it?”

What You Bring

  • Significant experience building and leading software products end-to-end, from early concepts through iteration and operation at scale.

  • Multiple years of engineering management experience, with a clear commitment to people leadership while remaining deeply technical and close to the work.

  • A track record of owning difficult, non-obvious technical problems with meaningful product and user impact.

  • Comfort moving between hands-on engineering and engineering leadership—sometimes within the same day.

  • Strong technical judgment and an ability to communicate why a decision matters, not simply what should be built.

  • Experience building and operating high-scale applications, with a strong appreciation for reliability, performance, maintainability, and user trust.

  • Strong product instincts and the ability to connect engineering decisions to the experience they create for users.

Strong signals for this role include:

  • Deep experience building successful consumer-facing web and/or mobile products, where engagement, retention, usability, and product quality were central to the experience.

  • Experience building consumer experiences that proactively give users a reason to return—through timely, relevant, personalized, or context-aware interactions that reduce effort and sustain engagement over time.

  • Fluency with modern AI-assisted engineering workflows and tools, with strong judgment about how to use AI to explore options, challenge assumptions, accelerate implementation, and improve technical decision-making.

  • Strong instincts around responsiveness, fast feedback loops, perceived performance, and the details that make software feel lightweight and intuitive.

  • Experience designing for moments when users may be overwhelmed, disengaged, or uncertain about what to do next.

  • Experience with React, React Native, Rails, GraphQL, Apollo. Specific technologies matter less than depth of technical thinking and craftsmanship.

Bonus signals we value:

  • Experience building products in regulated, safety-sensitive, or high-trust domains.

  • A track record of raising quality bars, not simply increasing velocity.

  • An ability to challenge people constructively and leave teams stronger and more energized as a result.

How We Build

We care deeply about craft, empathy, and trust. Our engineering values are captured in the Fullscript Developer Handbook.

We believe complexity should be clarified rather than surfaced, technology should deepen human care rather than replace it, and great teams outperform lone heroes.

This is an opportunity to help establish how Fullscript builds and engages patients on mobile. You’ll join an experienced team, strong product leadership, and the opportunity to shape the technical approach, product experience, and engineering practices that take it forward. It combines the scope and ambiguity of a new product with the resources and scale of an established company.

What We Can Offer You

  • Generous PTO and competitive pay

  • Fullscript’s RRSP match program for financial health

  • Flexible benefits package and workplace wellness program

  • Training budget and company-wide learning initiatives

  • Discount on Fullscript catalog of products

  • Ability to work Wherever You Work Well*

Our Wherever You Work Well philosophy means Fullscript teammates get to pick their own office — whether that’s in-office, at home, or a bit of both 🐶🏡
