Engineering Senior Backend Engineer — Platform
You will own the backend services that power client onboarding, account provisioning, and back-office workflows across our platform. Expect heavy PHP/Laravel work, Postgres schema and query design, and engineering for correctness under concurrent load.
What you'll own
- Design and implement APIs and background workers used during onboarding and account provisioning.
- Ensure transactional integrity, idempotency, and safe retry behaviour across services.
- Build and maintain integrations with external providers and broker systems (KYC, broker APIs, reporting endpoints).
- Improve database schemas, migrations, and Postgres performance for high-concurrency paths.
- Maintain observability: metrics, tracing, structured logs, and on-call runbooks.
A typical week
- Debug production incidents and ship safe, tested fixes during on-call rotations.
- Review pull requests and pair on design trade-offs for reliability and correctness.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and load tests; run schema migrations with care.
- Collaborate with client success and operations to iterate on edge cases surfaced by real customers.
What we look for
- Solid production experience building services with PHP/Laravel and Postgres.
- Practical knowledge of concurrency control: transactions, advisory locks, and optimistic patterns.
- Familiarity with queues, background processing, and idempotent job design (RabbitMQ/Redis/Kafka or similar).
- Clear communicator who documents designs, mentors teammates, and prioritises reliability over shortcuts.
