Te whiwhinga mahi - Our opportunity
Kāinga Ora is looking for an experienced and collaborative Environment Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and ongoing maintenance of Kāinga Ora's non-production technology environments. This is an exciting opportunity to ensure environments are available, fit for purpose, and aligned with delivery and operational requirements.
As a trusted advisor and technical leader, you will provide guidance on environment management practices, coordinate environment activities across the delivery lifecycle, and support production environment maintenance where required. The Environment Manager will partner closely with delivery, testing, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure environments are available and ready to support project and operational needs. Collaboration with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure effective planning and utilisation of environments is a key focus of this role.
You will also mentor, coach, and support members of the Release team, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Here’s what you will bring to the role:
We're looking for an experienced Environment Manager who combines strong technical knowledge with exceptional planning, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • Experience working in large, complex technology environments, ideally within the public sector, with a strong focus on scheduling, coordination, and delivery management
  • Advanced knowledge of environment management frameworks, methodologies, controls, and best practices
  • Solid understanding of release management, change management, and incident management processes
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to develop effective partnerships across technology teams, stakeholders, and business units
  • Excellent judgement, discretion, and the ability to remain calm and effective when managing competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with a keen attention to detail, ensuring high levels of accuracy and quality
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues

This role requires flexibility to work outside normal business hours when required to support critical environment and release activities.
