We are seeking an experienced Grading & Earthwork Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including site development, mass grading, earthwork, roadway construction, paving, hardscape and related infrastructure improvements.

This position requires a strong understanding of construction methods, production rates, equipment utilization, soil movement, and project logistics. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and company leadership to develop winning bids and ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to operations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, permits, and contract documents.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for:
    • Clearing and grubbing
    • Excavation and embankment
    • Mass grading
    • Import/export of fill
    • Roadway and paving work
    • Pond and lake excavations
    • Erosion control measures
    • Hardscape and site concrete
  • Utilize estimating software and earthwork modeling software to calculate quantities and production costs.
  • Develop comprehensive project budgets, labor estimates, equipment costs, material pricing, subcontractor costs, and indirect costs.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings as required.
  • Analyze project risks, constructability concerns, and scheduling impacts.
  • Develop haul plans and evaluate dirt balance strategies.
  • Prepare bid proposals, scope clarifications, and value engineering recommendations.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings with operations staff after award.
  • Assist in negotiating change orders and pricing additional work when needed.
  • Stay informed of market conditions, material pricing trends, and subcontractor availability.
