Field Technician I

The Field Technician I is an entry level field position responsible for supporting audiovisual installation projects by assisting with basic installation tasks, material handling, cabling support, and jobsite preparation while learning company installation standards, safety requirements, and core AV skills. This role works under the direct supervision of Senior Field Technicians and Field Foremen and is focused on skill development, reliability, and the safe execution of assigned work. The Field Technician I is not expected to work independently, and all tasks are performed under direction. Safety is the top priority in this role; the technician is expected to stop work and escalate concerns if conditions are unsafe, as safety shortcuts are unacceptable. Questions are encouraged and expected whenever instructions are unclear to ensure safe and correct completion of all tasks.

ORGANIZATION

This position reports to the Field Operations Manager and is an individual contributor. This role is part of the Field Operations department under the Chief Operating Officer.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Audio Visual Installation & Integration

• Supports audiovisual installation activities by performing basic installation and labor tasks as directed by the Lead Technician or Field Foreman.
• Focus on learning proper installation techniques while reliably executing assigned work.
• Assisting with mounting displays, speakers, cameras, and other AV devices under supervision.
• Supporting material handling, unpacking, staging, and tool preparation.
• Performing basic installation tasks as instructed and demonstrated.
• Maintaining clean, organized, and professional work areas.
• Protecting client property, finishes, and equipment during all activities.

Cabling, Terminations & Rack Assistance

• Assists with structured cabling activities and performs basic terminations while learning proper standards, methods, and expectations.
• Pulling and routing cable under direction.
• Assisting with cable support, dressing, and organization.
• Performing basic terminations once trained and approved.
• Labeling cables and devices as instructed.
• Supporting rack assistance and equipment staging tasks.
• Follow instructions exactly and not improvise. If unsure, stop and ask questions before continuing.

Quality Control & Safety Compliance

• Always wearing required PPE.
• Following ladder, lift, and tool safety procedures.
• Maintaining clean, hazard free work areas.
• Reporting unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately.
• Caring for company tools and equipment.
• Accountable for learning and always following all safety requirements.

Learning, Training & Skill Development

• Learning company installation standards and procedures.
• Observing and learning from Lead Technicians and senior staff.
• Accepting coaching and corrective feedback.
• Completing required onboarding, safety, and technical training.
• Demonstrating improvement in skills, efficiency, and reliability over time.
• Continuous learning and skill progression are core expectations.

Documentation & Reporting

• Assisting with photo documentation when requested.
• Reporting material shortages or damaged equipment.
• Communicating task completion or issues promptly.
• Supporting daily or end of day reporting as required.
• Expected to communicate honestly and early so problems reported early can be fixed; problems hidden become failures.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• OSHA 10 Certification (or willingness to obtain; company-supported within 90 days of employment).

EXPERIENCE

• Preferred experience in entry level AV, low voltage or electrical experience.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to learn AV tools, systems, and standards.
• Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity.
• Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
• Ability to travel and work overtime when required
