Finance Reporting Lead - Business Intelligence

Main Purpose
To support both the Head of Finance BPA and Head of Finance in managing the WFS Financial reporting framework, by partnering and leading a team ensuring all reporting responsibilities to key stakeholders are effectively executed within a robust framework and aligned to shareholder requirements as well as to provide the business with commercial thought leadership, insightful financial & commercial analysis, accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
  • Management and financial reporting (not financial accounting) across various dimensions, including weekly and monthly performance reporting, which includes being part of month end close process
Financial Performance Reporting
  • Timely delivery of WFS performance reporting (management accounts) for Board, Exco and leadership groups, including:

- Analysis of variances against budget and forecasts;

- Insightful explanations and commentary; and

- Recommendations for improvements/remedial action.

  • Ensure distribution of accurate and relevant weekly and monthly performance indicators to the business owners.
  • Ensure approval and timely submission of weekly, monthly and annual performance to WW and Absa.
Stakeholder Management
  • Monthly financial reporting to shareholders.
  • Present financial results and insights to senior management and other stakeholders, highlighting key trends and areas for improvement.
Continuous Improvement
  • Continuously seek improvements in accounting processes and procedures and manage the change process when improvements are implemented.
  • Stay abreast of accounting trends, relevant legislation and events in the accounting industry.
Staff and Talent Management
  • Management of staff members according to HR Best Practice and Policies: recruitment, induction, task setting and delegation, performance management, development planning, managing staffing capacity, succession planning, rewards and recognition and employee relations issues.
  • Attend to and resolve all staff related issues.
  • Ascertain all people administrative matters are effectively handled.
  • Conduct informal coaching with immediate staff and other stakeholders.
  • Manage EE targets.

Requirements

Key Competencies
Qualifications
Minimum
  • 3 year university degree in Accounting, Financial Accounting and/or Business
  • CA(SA) or equivalent
Preferred:
  • CIMA
Experience:
Minimum:
  • 5 years’ experience in a management accounting and/or financial performance and planning role
  • 2 – 3 years management experience
Preferred:
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience within a medium to large organisation within the financial services industry
Additional Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills including strong ability to communicate (verbal and written) strategic and financial reporting to Exco and leadership teams.
  • Strong analytical skills including variance analysis and interpreting the impact of current/forecast circumstances on future business performance.
  • Strong accounting knowledge (IFRS etc.).
  • Ability to design and review accurate financial modelling in Excel.
  • Experience of complex GL and reporting systems e.g. Oracle.
  • Knowledge of retail financial services business or similar large corporate environment.
