The Role
We are looking for a Product Owner to join the Central Technology team in support of Morningstar’s Finance organization. This position is based out of our Chicago office. The Product Owner is expected to play a pivotal role in executing the Finance Technology roadmap across our core enterprise platforms—Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), Coupa, and Concur—coordinating with Finance business stakeholders, technology development leaders, engineers, QA, and other roles. This role requires a blend of project management expertise, along with finance process and enterprise application experience, to ensure successful delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions that support procurement, expense management, and core financial operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the development team and business stakeholders to help set short-term, medium-term & strategic priorities for Morningstar’s Finance Technology platforms, including Oracle EBS, Coupa, and Concur.
- Work with key stakeholders across Finance, Procurement, Accounts Payable, and Travel & Expense to help define and write requirements and user stories for new product features and enhancements.
- Own and execute the product roadmap for Oracle EBS (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and related modules), Coupa (procure-to-pay), and Concur (travel and expense), applying Agile principles to manage the backlog and plan iterations.
- Partner with stakeholders to support quote-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and record-to-report processes, ensuring system capabilities align with finance operations and controls.
- Lead scrum meetings and ceremonies, ensuring clear communication and efficient workflow across business and technical teams.
- Define a clear product vision and identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve financial systems and processes.
- Coordinate platform upgrades, patches, integrations, and data flows between Oracle EBS, Coupa, Concur, and other enterprise systems.
- Support compliance, audit, and internal controls requirements (e.g., SOX) by ensuring proper documentation, approvals, and traceability within financial systems.
- Manage program documentation repository and assist with presentations on program updates.
- Track and report key performance metrics.
- Leverage AI across all aspects of central technology to support automation and drive insights.
- Partner with vendors and assist with regular vendor communications, including Oracle, Coupa, and SAP Concur.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 4-5 years of product management or business systems analyst experience.
- Hands-on experience with one or more enterprise finance platforms—Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), Coupa, or Concur.
- Working knowledge of core finance and accounting processes such as procure-to-pay, accounts payable, expense management, and the general ledger.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and planning skills.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced global environment while delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to translate complex technical decisions into simple and understandable business outcomes.
- Has an extremely high-quality bar on documentation, especially when it comes to defining Problem Statements, writing Product specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Having a go-getter attitude, being self-directed, detail-oriented & possessing good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to create structure from ambiguous situations.
- Working Agile experience – Scrum methodology, JIRA or equivalent story writing tool. Product backlog, sprint backlog, story estimation and prioritization, creation of user stories, acceptance criteria.
- Strong people skills to support collaboration across functions and organizations.
- Experience with Oracle ERP implementations, configurations, migrations, data conversions, customizations, and integrations with internal and external systems, including banks, payment processors, and enterprise reporting platforms
- Familiarity with key Oracle ERP data models, including TCA, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Service Contracts, is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of software development and coding principles and methodologies. Experience of software development and coding
- Experience with Oracle EPM solutions (PBCS, FCCS, ARCS, and Narrative Reporting) is a plus.
- Experience with system integrations, financial data flows, or reporting is a plus.
- Experience supporting compliance and internal controls (e.g., SOX) within financial systems is a plus.
- Experience in financial services is a plus.
