Summary

The Forward Deployed Engineer works directly alongside Duracell business teams to build, deploy, and support AI-powered solutions in the field. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on getting working solutions into users’ hands quickly and improving them based on real feedback. Success in this role means turning ambiguous business problems into deployed, adopted solutions that leverage machine learning, large language models (including Claude), and modern AI capabilities. This role partners with other areas of IT to keep what gets built aligned with the broader architecture and standards. A key part of this role is packaging and deploying those solutions, publishing apps and other lightweight agents to a shared location, often on Azure, so teams across Duracell can find and use them.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, your primary role and responsibilities may include:

  • Embed with business teams to understand their problems firsthand and translate them into viable AI and analytics solutions, including generative AI capabilities.
  • Work with the Infrastructure team to assist in publishing AI-created artifacts such as apps, dashboards, and lightweight web applications to a shared location.
  • Manage those applications on Azure using resource groups and app hosting services and handling application-level configuration, access, and updates.
  • Design and support end-to-end AI-powered solutions on data from business applications and Fabric/Snowflake data sources.
  • Build intelligent solutions using large language models (Claude, etc.), Python, and SQL.
Work side by side with users to drive adoption, troubleshoot issues, and gather requirements for the next iteration.
  • Document what you build and share what works so other teams can reuse it.
  • Keep up to date with emerging AI and advanced analytics trends, and bring practical ideas back to the business.

Must-Have

  • Hands-on experience building with Gen AI large language models (LLMs) including Claude, Gemini, and similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Python, and Gen AI application artifacts (HTML, React, etc)
  • Hands-on experience deploying and hosting web applications or static sites (for example, HTML or React apps) so others can access them.
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft Azure at the application level, such as resource groups and app hosting services (App Service, Static Web Apps, or Functions); deep infrastructure or DevOps experience is not required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Snowflake platforms (desirable).
  • A strong bias for action; able to move fast and iterate rather than wait for perfect requirements.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities.
  • Solid communication and relationship skills; able to explain technical work to non-technical people and collaborate across teams.
  • Consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail, or manufacturing industry experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a concentration in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying software, data, or AI/ML solutions, including at least 2 years working directly with business users or customers.
