Forward Deployed Engineer
Summary
Forward Deployed Engineer at a seed-funded NYC healthtech startup building AI voice agents for clinic front offices. Day to day: write production code (Node.js/TypeScript/React), own enterprise healthcare implementations end-to-end, and monitor/tune AI agents in production, with ~10% travel to customer sites.
About the company
Our client is a fast-growing, venture-backed healthtech startup building the AI front office for healthcare. Clinics today leave a large share of patient calls unanswered while their staff is buried in administrative work. This company is changing that with AI agents that complete entire workflows end-to-end (scheduling, billing, prescription refills), so care teams can focus on patients instead of phones.
The platform has already handled hundreds of thousands of patient interactions for virtual care companies, health systems, and one of the largest health insurers in the US.
The company was founded by a physician-entrepreneur with experience on the founding teams of leading digital health companies, together with a former big-tech engineering leader who has built and led AI/ML teams at scale. That combination gives the team a deep understanding of both the clinical and the technical sides of healthcare communication.
The team is small, mission-driven, and moves fast, working fully in person from its office in New York City with a clear goal: no patient call should go unanswered.
About the role
The hardest part of healthcare shouldn’t be getting an appointment. Today, medical staff drown in backlogs of calls, faxes, and scheduling requests. Patients struggle to get the right care at the right time, staff members burn out, and clinics lose billions in revenue. This isn’t a failure of care; it’s a failure of capacity.
The company’s AI agents handle the patient journey end-to-end, from scheduling and rescheduling appointments to managing referrals and prescription refills, performing complex workflows with a human-like touch that patients love.
You’ll join a $10M seed-funded company that has already won head-to-head against every competitor and outperformed human schedulers by 20–40% for enterprise clients. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll write production code, own customer implementations end-to-end, and be the technical face to enterprise healthcare clients. You’ll shape the product roadmap while building the systems that scale the company’s competitive moat.
Location: In person in New York City, with about 10% travel to customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship: Write production code, building integrations, configuring AI agents, and implementing platform logic based on customer workflows and scheduling rules.
- Own implementations end-to-end: Create and manage technical project plans from scoping through go-live. Coordinate internal resources, delegate workstreams, and drive timelines to completion.
- Engineer the moat: The company’s competitive advantage is its ability to stay in the weeds with customers until the technology works. You’ll architect the high-leverage systems and playbooks that turn these complex implementations into repeatable, scalable infrastructure.
- Be the technical face to customers: Serve as the primary point of contact for customer technical teams, leading discovery sessions, unblocking integration issues, and building trusted advisor relationships.
- Optimize AI agents in production: Monitor agent performance at scale, diagnose failure modes, and iteratively refine behavior to improve accuracy, reliability, and patient experience over time.
- Grow accounts: Drive expansion post-launch by deploying new features, identifying upsell opportunities, and proactively solving emerging pain points.
- Shape the product: Translate field observations and customer feedback into actionable requirements that inform the product roadmap.
