Founding AI Agent Engineer
Summary
Owns a patient-facing conversational AI agent for clinical trial recruitment at an early-stage healthtech startup — orchestrating agents across voice, SMS, and email, integrating health data, and turning production failures into evals. Core stack: LLMs, agent orchestration (LangGraph, Vercel AI SDK), voice AI, SMS APIs.
About the Role
Join an early-stage healthtech team building conversational AI agents for clinical trial recruitment. You will own the patient-facing agent as it scales across trials and communication channels, with a focus on making it both effective and safe in a regulated environment.
What You'll Do
Build and orchestrate AI agents that coordinate patient recruitment across clinical trials.
Review production conversations, identify failure scenarios, turn them into evaluations, and use the results to improve the agent harness.
Integrate health profile data sources to support timely outreach and patient qualification.
Scale language model experiences across voice, SMS, and email while keeping conversations consistent and personalized.
Evaluate emerging agent research and tools, and incorporate relevant capabilities into the product.
What We're Looking For
0 to 4 years of experience as a software engineer, agent engineer, or applied AI engineer.
Professional experience focused on agents or large-scale AI applications, including conversational agents and agent harnesses deployed beyond prototypes.
Experience building evaluation and tracing infrastructure for AI agents and working with production traces.
Familiarity with conversational AI, LLMs, agent orchestration, and tools such as LangGraph, Vercel AI SDK, voice AI, and SMS APIs.
Strong CS, mathematics, or related technical fundamentals, typically supported by an undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
Resourcefulness, strong execution, and the ability to work through ambiguous technical problems independently.
Healthtech experience or a strong interest in healthcare is valued; consumer-facing conversational AI experience is relevant.
