Founding Backend/Infra Engineer

Discussion

Summary

As one of Remy's first engineers, you'll own the backend and platform infrastructure powering its AI product-design agent — building APIs, data models, and infrastructure for LLM-driven generation and agent workflows. Core stack: TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, AWS (AppSync, DynamoDB, ECS), Cloudflare, and Docker.

About Remy

Remy is an AI agent tackling one of the most exciting frontiers in creative AI: autonomous product design. More than just generating UI, Remy helps software teams visually explore, refine, and converge on the right product to build.

The old way is slow: text-heavy PRDs, bottlenecked design cycles, weeks of back-and-forth before a team agrees on what to ship. Remy uses generative AI to align teams visually from day one, learning their style, standards, and goals to produce design outputs ready for use by designers, engineers, and coding agents.

As Remy integrates deeper into your product team, each interaction makes it smarter. Our vision is a fully autonomous AI product team that can ideate, design, and ship software on its own.

You’ll be joining as one of our first engineering hires, owning major features end-to-end and building the core architecture that will power everything we do. You’ll work side-by-side with our CEO and founding team to reinvent how companies imagine and create products. This is a ground-floor role with huge ownership, direct impact, and the chance to define the future of design.

About the role

As a Backend/Infra Engineer at Remy, you'll own the systems that power our AI design agent — from the APIs and data models behind the product to the infrastructure that keeps LLM-powered generation fast, reliable, and cost-efficient at scale.

  • Own core backend systems and platform infrastructure. Design, build, and scale the services, APIs, and data layer that Remy’s AI systems rely on.

  • Build for AI workloads. Architect the infrastructure behind LLM integrations, streaming outputs, and agent-driven workflows — fast, reliable, and cost-efficient.

  • Make smart technical tradeoffs. Navigate ambiguity, choose pragmatic architectures, and keep the team moving without compromising quality.

  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and AI. Bring ideas from concept to production with the founder and founding team, wiring together agent-driven features, streaming outputs, and the right abstractions.

  • Establish the engineering foundation. Set patterns for code quality, testing, deployment, observability, and the architecture that will scale with the product.

  • Shape Remy’s engineering culture. Help define how we build, review, ship, and grow the team from the ground up.

Tech stack

TypeScript • Node.js • AWS AppSync • Cloudflare • Express.js • GraphQL • DynamoDB • ECS • OpenAI, Anthropic, Google • Docker

About you

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, or Senior/Staff Engineer-level experience, with significant time building backend systems, APIs, and user-facing product features.

  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills and deep experience with Node.js and modern backend frameworks.

  • Deep comfort with cloud infrastructure. You’ve owned systems on AWS (or GCP/Azure) end-to-end — provisioning, scaling, deployment, and observability.

  • Strong systems thinking. You think clearly about data models, API boundaries, reliability, and how architecture fits together.

  • A track record of shipping 0→1 products in fast-moving environments where the problem space is still being defined.

  • Clear, precise communicator. You can articulate tradeoffs, write clear RFCs, and disagree constructively.

  • A genuine eye for design. You care deeply about well-designed software products and notice the details that make products feel great.

  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and containerized deployments (Docker, ECS, etc.).

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with real-time systems, websockets, or event-driven architectures.

  • Hands-on experience with LLM integrations, streaming outputs, agent orchestration, or AI eval/observability pipelines.

  • Early-stage startup experience and a love for wearing multiple hats.

If you want to build core systems from the ground up, see your work in the hands of users in days instead of months, and join an incredibly talented team defining how the next generation of software gets imagined, designed, and shipped — we’d love to meet you.
