Frontend Engineer - Mobile

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Frontend Engineer - Mobile based in Canada.

Are you a passionate frontend engineer excited about building high-performance mobile applications and immersive digital experiences? This fully remote opportunity offers the chance to develop innovative products across iOS, Android, and web using React Native and TypeScript. You will take ownership of features from concept to release, combining sophisticated user interfaces, real-time data integrations, and advanced animations to deliver seamless experiences. Working across sportsbook, casino, arcade, and fantasy gaming products, you will tackle challenging engineering problems involving live data streams, interactive graphics, and performance optimization. You will collaborate with a product-focused engineering team to build scalable applications and contribute to a shared design system used across multiple products. • Mobile application development: Design, build, test, and ship production-quality features using React Native and TypeScript across iOS, Android, and web platforms.
• End-to-end feature ownership: Take responsibility for features throughout the development lifecycle, from implementation and integration to testing, debugging, deployment, and ongoing improvement.
• Complex user interface development: Build sophisticated interfaces for sportsbook markets, betting slips, player propositions, gaming lobbies, and interactive product experiences.
• Advanced animations and interactions: Develop physics-based animations, gesture-driven interactions, animated transitions, carousel pagers, and radial controls using React Native animation technologies.
• Graphics and visual experiences: Implement canvas-based graphics, player cards, game visualizations, and dynamic visual effects to create polished and engaging user experiences.
• Design system contributions: Extend and maintain a theme-based design system with more than 100 shared components, promoting consistency, accessibility, and reusability across products.
• Real-time data integration: Build and maintain WebSocket subscriptions for live odds, match updates, and user notifications, ensuring data is delivered and displayed reliably.
• State management and synchronization: Implement synchronization between real-time data streams and local application stores to maintain accurate, responsive interfaces.
• Deep linking and navigation: Support navigation flows originating from push notifications, attribution links, and web referrals to deliver seamless cross-platform user journeys.
• Payment integrations: Implement and maintain payment experiences, including in-app purchases, bank transfers, card entry, and verification processes.
• Cross-platform debugging: Identify, investigate, and resolve platform-specific issues across iOS, Android, and web environments.
• Performance optimization: Improve rendering efficiency, animation frame rates, responsiveness, and memory management to ensure reliable performance across supported devices.
• Animation-thread execution: Develop worklet functions and optimize animation execution to deliver smooth, hardware-accelerated interactions.
• Testing and quality assurance: Maintain end-to-end automated tests, identify regressions, and contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Engineering collaboration: Work closely with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to deliver maintainable solutions aligned with product requirements and quality standards.

Requirements

• Professional experience: At least four years of professional frontend development experience, including a minimum of two years building and shipping production React Native applications for both iOS and Android.
• React Native expertise: Strong hands-on experience developing, debugging, and maintaining cross-platform mobile applications in production environments.
• TypeScript proficiency: Advanced knowledge of TypeScript, modern JavaScript patterns, and maintainable frontend architecture.
• Animation and gesture handling: Practical experience with React Native Reanimated, including shared values, worklets, and gesture handlers.
• Production delivery: A demonstrated track record of shipping polished, reliable mobile applications with attention to usability, visual quality, and overall performance.
• Cross-platform troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve platform-specific behavior, rendering inconsistencies, and integration issues across mobile and web environments.
• Performance engineering: Understanding of mobile performance optimization, including rendering efficiency, animation responsiveness, memory management, and smooth user interactions.
• Real-time systems: Ability to work with asynchronous data flows, real-time updates, and state synchronization is highly valuable.
• Technical problem-solving: Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues and deliver efficient, maintainable solutions.
• Collaboration and ownership: Ability to work independently, communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, take responsibility for deliverables, and contribute to a fast-paced product development environment.

Nice-to-have qualifications:

• Experience in sports betting, online gaming, fintech, or other real-money transaction environments.
• Familiarity with canvas-based graphics technologies, such as React Skia or similar frameworks.
• Experience with WebSocket management, GraphQL subscriptions, or other real-time data architectures.
• Knowledge of React Native Web or experience building applications for multiple platforms from a shared codebase.
• Experience with design system tools, including Storybook and visual regression testing.
• Familiarity with payment integrations, including in-app purchases and 3D Secure (3DS) verification.
• Experience developing and maintaining end-to-end automated tests for mobile applications.
• Understanding of regulated digital products and the engineering considerations involved in delivering reliable experiences across multiple jurisdictions.
