About The Role
Matalan is seeking a Full Stack Developer to join its internal development team in the United Kingdom. In this role, you will build, improve and maintain web applications using TypeScript, React.js and Node.js, with solutions hosted in an Azure environment and connected to Azure SQL Server. You will work on systems that support business-critical retail operations and help replace legacy applications used across buying, merchandising and the supply chain.
The role combines hands‑on development with collaboration across technical and business teams. You will contribute to applications throughout their lifecycle, from understanding requirements and shaping solutions to implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing support. You will also have opportunities to broaden your database skills, including exposure to Oracle PL/SQL and Microsoft T-SQL, and to help create modern integrations between systems. This is an opportunity for a developer who enjoys practical problem‑solving and wants to contribute to technology change in a large retail environment.
Qualifications
Applicants should have experience developing full stack web applications and be comfortable working with TypeScript, React.js and Node.js. A sound understanding of web application principles, API development and relational databases will help you contribute effectively. Experience with Azure services and Azure SQL Server is relevant to the role; familiarity with Oracle PL/SQL or Microsoft T-SQL would be useful, or you should be motivated to develop these skills.
You should be able to communicate technical ideas clearly, work constructively with colleagues and approach unfamiliar systems with curiosity. The ability to investigate issues, break down complex requirements and deliver maintainable solutions is important. Experience supporting or modernising legacy applications, integrating business systems or working in retail, supply chain or a similarly complex operational environment would be advantageous.
Responsibilities
Develop, enhance and maintain web applications using TypeScript, React.js and Node.js. Build and support solutions within Matalan’s Azure environment, including applications connected to Azure SQL Server. Contribute to replacing legacy systems used by buying, merchandising and supply chain teams across stores and warehouses.
Work with stakeholders and other developers to understand business needs, clarify requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions. Create and maintain integrations that allow systems to exchange information reliably. Write readable, maintainable code and participate in testing, debugging, code reviews and documentation. Help investigate application and data issues, support deployments and contribute to the ongoing stability and improvement of the solutions you develop. Continue building knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL and Microsoft T-SQL as relevant to the team’s systems and projects.
