Senior Full Stack & Operations Engineer (TypeScript / React / PostgreSQL / Cloud & AI)
Position: Full-Time, Permanent
Experience Level: Senior (Graduated pre-2020)
Company: Flyp (flyp.co)
About Flyp
At Flyp , we are revolutionizing the UK residential real estate market. The traditional process of buying and selling homes is slow, manual, and inefficient. We use proprietary technology, data-driven algorithms, smart staging, and multi-agency routing to transform properties, maximize value, and execute faster sales for homeowners.
We are expanding our core technical team in Cape Town . This role is a hands-on, hybrid position designed for a seasoned engineer who excels at building next-generation product features while maintaining high availability, health, and performance across our existing digital ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ecosystem Operations & System Support (~40-50%)
- System Health & Maintenance: Take active ownership of the operational health, uptime, and stability of Flyp’s existing production environment and core ecosystem.
- Incident Management: Serve as a key responder for critical system failures, data synchronization issues, and service outages, driving rapid root-cause analysis (RCA) and long-term resolution.
- Monitoring & Alerting: Instrument proactive monitoring, logging, and performance metrics across APIs, database instances, and background job queues to catch failures before they impact users.
- Technical Debt & Refactoring: Identify operational bottlenecks, optimize legacy code, improve deployment pipelines (CI/CD), and ensure core dependencies remain secure and up to date.
- Full-Stack Engineering: Design, build, and deploy new end-to-end features using TypeScript, React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
- PropTech AI Integration: Implement Agentic AI systems, automated property valuation tools, and LLM-driven workflows (OpenAI, Anthropic) to streamline multi-agency orchestration and lead management.
- Database & Cloud Management: Optimize schemas, manage migrations, and tune complex queries on PostgreSQL while scaling microservices across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or equivalent cloud providers.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science or a closely related quantitative field.
- Seniority Threshold: Graduated pre-2020 with 6+ years of post-qualification commercial software engineering experience.
- Operational Expertise: Proven experience supporting and maintaining production environments, debugging live applications, and managing operational SLAs.
- Frontend Mastery: Deep expertise in modern TypeScript and React (hooks, state architecture, and web performance optimization).
- Backend & Database: Core proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript REST/GraphQL APIs and advanced PostgreSQL management (indexing, migrations, execution plan optimization).
- Cloud & DevOps: Strong experience with GCP (or AWS/Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), serverless architectures, and CI/CD automation.
- Applied AI & Automation: Exposure to Generative AI, LLM API integrations, vector stores (pgvector/Pinecone), and Agentic frameworks.
- Location: Must be based in or willing to relocate to Cape Town for a fully in-office role.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in PropTech, Real Estate, FinTech, or high-throughput marketplace ecosystems.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring tooling (Datadog, Sentry, Prometheus, Grafana).
What We Offer
- Competitive Compensation: Highly competitive ZAR salary reflecting senior-level expertise and operational responsibility.
- In-Person Collaboration: A dynamic, fast-paced work environment in our Cape Town office.
- End-to-End Ownership: Direct impact on both high-level system architecture and daily production stability in the UK property market.
