We build tools and datasets to understand and respond to misinformation in India. We aim to support and scale existing misinformation response efforts by creating scrapers for sourcing content from chat apps and social media in India; using machine learning to categorize and classify multilingual, multimedia content; and distributing fact checked information so that it is accessible to mobile-first audience. In the process Tattle aims to enable more transparent research on misinformation on Indian Social Media.
About The Role
We are seeking a full stack software engineer with a strong interest in public interest technology and/or computational social science. We're looking for someone who can build robust software and also read, critique, and contribute to socio-technical research.
Some skills we regard as being important for this role :
Technical
- Familiarity with Linux and/or Cloud Service providers like AWS
- Comfortable with integrating new APIs
- Appreciation for understanding low-level implementation details, algorithms and data structures
- Contribution to open source software in any form
Socio-technical research
- Ability to engage with formal, quantitative, or computationally grounded social science
- Comfortable reading academic papers in economics, political economy, science & technology studies (STS)
Soft Skills
- Interest and Ability in tinkering with new technologies
- Keenness to mentor others in the organization and similarly learn from others in the team.
