Game Designer - Content implementation focus
Summary
Designs and implements content for BKOM Studios' major PC/console action-RPG titles: populating Unreal Engine levels with NPCs, enemies, encounters, loot and environmental storytelling, scaling difficulty across levels, and testing quests. Requires 5+ years in gameplay/content/quest design; temporary contract through May 2027, hybrid or remote from Quebec City.
- Design and iterate on the content of our level blocking
- Present gameplay event ideas and content flow plans to the creative team
- Assist with creating strong environmental storytelling via the tools available to you by working with the art and narrative teams
- Implement your ideas directly within the Unreal editor - placing NPCs, enemies, encounters, lore elements, environmental objects, treasures, and narrative cues to create cohesive and immersive levels that reward exploration.
- Orchestrate loot progression: determining where key equipment, materials, resources etc. should drop, at what quantity, etc. to maintain long-term engagement.
- Collaborate closely with the team to envision and utilize tools and pipelines to efficiently populate levels.
- Work with Level Artists and Art Directors to ensure that aesthetics and visual storytelling perfectly support the gameplay experience.
- Share your tips and organizational methods within editing tools (Unreal Engine) to elevate the collective efficiency of the design team.
- Infuse your passion for action/RPG gaming into every area of the game, ensuring the world feels alive and reactive to player actions.
- Ensure that the difficulty of each level is properly scaled, so that each level challenges the player’s mastery of its mechanics and that difficulty ramps properly from level to level across 11 floors.
- Tirelessly test your own levels and quests, always searching for that small detail—a hidden dialogue, a well-placed secret—that transforms an ordinary play session into a memorable moment.
