Position Summary

The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational success of Sheraton Nouakchott Hotel. This role drives business performance, delivers exceptional guest experiences, develops high-performing teams, and ensures compliance with Marriott International standards and brand expectations.

The General Manager will work closely with hotel ownership, regional leadership, and local stakeholders to position the hotel as the preferred hospitality destination in Mauritania while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, innovation, and inclusion.

Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a General Manager in a branded full-service hotel environment, or significant executive hotel leadership experience with demonstrated readiness for a General Manager role.
  • Experience leading multi-department hotel operations, including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Sales & Marketing.
  • Proven track record of achieving strong guest satisfaction, associate engagement, and financial performance results.
  • Experience with Marriott International or another leading global hospitality company is preferred.
  • Experience operating in Africa, the Middle East, or other emerging markets is an advantage.

Language Requirements Required

  • Fluent English, both written and spoken.
  • Fluent French, both written and spoken.

Preferred

  • Arabic language proficiency would be a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the hotel's strategic business plan to achieve revenue, profitability, and market share objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the hotel's competitive position and reputation within the market.
  • Build strong relationships with ownership, Marriott International leadership, government entities, diplomatic communities, and key business partners.
  • Champion Marriott's values and culture throughout the organization.

Operations Management

  • Oversee all aspects of hotel operations, including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Engineering, and Security.
  • Ensure compliance with Marriott brand standards, operating procedures, and service excellence expectations.
  • Maintain high guest satisfaction scores and quality assurance results.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Financial Performance

  • Drive revenue growth and profitability through effective business planning and execution.
  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to maximize returns.
  • Ensure sound financial controls, asset protection, and compliance.

Talent Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and retain top hospitality talent.
  • Build an engaged, inclusive, and high-performing workforce.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities for leaders and associates.
  • Support succession planning and leadership pipeline development.

Commercial Leadership

  • Collaborate with the commercial team to drive market share, RevPAR, occupancy, and overall hotel performance.
  • Strengthen relationships with corporate, government, diplomatic, and group customers.
  • Represent the hotel within the local community and hospitality industry.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, Marriott policies, and safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests and associates.
  • Lead sustainability and social responsibility initiatives aligned with Marriott's commitments.
