Help shape the future of school property in Aotearoa
The New Zealand School Property Agency (NZSPA) was established in October 2026 as a standalone Crown entity responsible for managing New Zealand’s school property portfolio on behalf of the Government. We build, maintain and oversee the infrastructure that helps children and young people learn and thrive. Our priorities are to deliver better value for taxpayers, improve service to schools, and provide greater transparency around property planning and school entitlements.
About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
This is a rare opportunity to shape the technology future of a newly established national crown agency. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and serving on the Executive Leadership Team, the General Manager Information Technology will set NZSPA’s enterprise technology and digital direction, build the capability required of a standalone organisation and lead a significant programme of renewal and transformation.
You will guide a multi-year technology investment programme, with the potential to increase as requirements are confirmed. The challenge includes transitioning from Ministry of Education systems and services, replacing end-of-life platforms, reducing manual processes and enabling modern asset management across a school property portfolio valued at more than $30 billion.
You will balance ambitious transformation with secure, resilient day-to-day technology services, while advising the Chief Executive and Board on investment priorities, delivery, cyber risk and measurable outcomes.

We are looking for an accomplished and experienced technology executive who combines strategic vision with pragmatic delivery, commercial judgement and the ability to lead change across a complex organisation. You will bring:
- Substantial senior technology leadership experience, ideally at CIO, CDO or General Manager level.
- A strong track record of leading multi-year technology renewal, legacy replacement and business transformation programmes that deliver tangible organisational/system outcomes and positive change
- Experience with enterprise platforms, information and data governance, and preferably asset management, property or infrastructure systems.
- Sound judgement in technology investment, supplier management, cyber security, risk and operational resilience.
- The ability to work with Boards, chief executives and senior colleagues, build capable teams and deliver change while maintaining essential services.
- A commitment to public service integrity, collaboration, inclusion and accountability.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
The technology function will play a central role in NZSPA’s establishment and ongoing effectiveness. Working with executive colleagues across asset management, planning, investment, procurement and supplier management, you will help create integrated systems, trusted information and practical digital services that support better decisions and outcomes for schools. The structure and reporting arrangements below the executive level are subject to further organisational design and consultation.
