Job Description:

Geotechnical Engineer (Infrastructure)

Dubai, UAE

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Geotechnical Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to supervise a road and infrastructure project.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Supervise and witness geotechnical site activities, including ground investigation (boreholes, trial pits, in-situ testing), ground improvement, engineered fill placement and compaction, and associated verification testing.

  • Review and comment on contractor submissions — method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), material submittals, prequalification packages and geotechnical design/factual/interpretative reports (GDR/GFR/GIR).

  • Verify compaction control and fill quality against specified upper and lower density limits, confirming that both minimum compaction and over-compaction / air-void criteria are satisfied under the RTA General Specification.

  • Review ground improvement design and execution (e.g. dynamic compaction, vibro techniques, rapid impact compaction), including pre- and post-treatment CPT/testing, zone load tests and acceptance criteria.

  • Assess geotechnical parameters and foundation-related submissions for MSE retaining walls and cut-and-cover underpass structures, coordinating with the structural supervision team.

  • Witness and review pile and load testing where applicable, and confirm compliance with specification, drawings and approved procedures.

  • Raise and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Site Observation Reports (SORs) and comment/response sheets, and verify contractor close-out of geotechnical non-conformances.

  • Monitor site progress of geotechnical works against the approved program and inform the Resident Engineer of any quality, safety, or compliance issues.

  • Coordinate with relevant authorities (RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA and other stakeholders) on geotechnical and earthworks-related approvals and requirements.

  • Attend and minute geotechnical, technical, progress, quality and safety meetings as required, and support the review of geotechnical elements of interim payment submissions.

  • Maintain accurate site records, inspection registers and geotechnical documentation to support project reporting and handover.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Minimum 12 years of geotechnical engineering experience on major roads and infrastructure projects, including site supervision on the Engineer / consultant side.

  • Proven Dubai project experience is essential, with demonstrable delivery on schemes within the Emirate of Dubai.

  • Proven RTA experience is essential — prior work on RTA roads/infrastructure projects with working knowledge of the RTA General Specification (Sections 4 and 5).P

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), AutoCAD / Civil 3D, and document-management platforms (e.g. Aconex/unifier), together with geotechnical logging software (e.g. gINT). Working knowledge of geotechnical analysis software — PLAXIS, Slope/W (GeoStudio) — is an advantage.

  • Sound working knowledge of ground investigation, ground improvement, earthworks and engineered fill, MSE walls and foundation systems relevant to roads and underpass structures.

  • Familiarity with FIDIC-based contract administration and the role of the Engineer's supervision team is desirable.

  • Strong command of geotechnical investigation, interpretation of bore-log and laboratory data, and derivation of design parameters.

  • Competence in reviewing GFR/GIR, method statements, ITPs and NCRs, and in enforcing specification compliance on site.

  • Clear technical reporting and correspondence, with disciplined record-keeping.

  • Effective coordination with contractors, designers, authorities and the wider supervision team.

  • Commitment to quality, health and safety (ISO 45001 environment) and to the Employer's commercial and program interests.
