Job Summary
Monitor and manage Oracle database events and performance metrics to ensure system availability and reliability. Collaborate with support teams to address alerts, backups, and user access requests, driving operational excellence in database administration.
Responsibilities
- Monitor event alerts and promptly notify relevant teams to escalate issues to level 2 and level 3 support engineers
- Track database availability, instance uptime, and disk drive and file system space to maintain optimal operation
- Analyze Oracle alert logs, transaction logs, and backup logs to identify and resolve issues
- Respond to database-related inquiries and calls from application support and development teams
- Monitor backup processes and recovery errors, and execute database restoration requests as needed
- Detect and address performance issues such as high CPU and memory utilization, application performance bottlenecks, and query tuning opportunities
- Process requests for database stop/start, user creation, and granting specific data access rights
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent
- Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring tools such as Datadog and Dynatrace, with a willingness to learn new technologies
- Experience monitoring database events including availability, instance performance, disk space, and file system usage
- Familiarity with Oracle database alert logs, transaction logs, and backup logs
- Basic understanding of backup and recovery processes and tools
