Head of Engineering & Operations

Open 28d

At Tatum, we're looking for a Head of Engineering & Operations – a hands-on leader who likes working closely with engineers and helping them do good work. At its core, the job is about people: supporting the team, removing the blockers in their way, keeping priorities clear, and making sure what we ship is reliable and useful to our customers.

The role spans a few areas – infrastructure, engineering, blockchain operations, and quality management. It's broad, and you'll be close to the work rather than managing from a distance: you'll be leading engineers directly and shaping how it all fits together.

At Tatum, we value ownership, flexibility, respect, and practical execution. We work in a fast-paced blockchain environment with flat hierarchies, informal communication, and a strong focus on individual contribution and autonomy.

What we need help with

Leading the team

  • Run team planning, prioritization, estimates, backlog, and delivery.
  • Support people management, coordination, and day-to-day operational decisions.
  • Improve collaboration across Product, Engineering, Support, and Security.

Infrastructure & platform

  • Own infrastructure reliability, observability, monitoring, and on-call.
  • Find and fix reliability, performance, and operational issues before they reach customers.
  • Research, integrate, and operate blockchain networks in the Tatum ecosystem.
  • Support work on Tatum's Dashboard, API platform, backend services, and internal tools.
  • Handle production operations, debugging, and incident resolution.

Standards & quality

  • Set technical standards and improve documentation and engineering processes.
  • Define and improve quality and release quality.

Cost & commercial

  • Keep an eye on infrastructure and vendor costs, and their impact on COGS and margins.
  • Assess technical feasibility and cost impact for new deals, trials, and commitments.
  • Guide vendor decisions – reliability, SLAs, pricing, and operational fit.

Our technology stack

  • Cloud & infrastructure: GCP, OVH
  • Ops & CI/CD: Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, Ansible, Terraform
  • Frontend: TypeScript, React.js, Tailwind CSS
  • Backend: Node.js, Nest.js
  • Data: MongoDB, Firestore, Redis
  • Messaging: RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub
  • Blockchain: 200+ blockchain networks
  • Observability & on-call: Grafana, BetterStack
  • Code quality & security: Snyk, SonarCloud
  • Cooperation: ClickUp, Notion

Requirements

  • You have around 5+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or backend engineering – across cloud, VPS, or bare-metal environments.
  • You're hands-on with Linux, Docker, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation, and comfortable working directly on technical problems.
  • You know your way around the JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem (Node.js, Nest.js).
  • You can set priorities based on what matters – business impact, customer needs, cost, reliability, and operational risk.
  • You communicate clearly, listen to the team, and stand up for them when it counts.
  • You're comfortable with production responsibility, incident handling, and taking part in on-call.
  • You understand observability, monitoring, and what "reliable" and "good quality" actually mean in practice.
  • You're happy to work with customers or customer-facing teams when needed.
  • You're pragmatic, adaptable, and take ownership – you bring ideas and see them through from research to production.

Blockchain experience is a plus, not a must – the stack is learnable, and we don't expect you to arrive as an expert.

Sound like you? We'd love to hear from you – and if you're not sure you tick every box, reach out anyway. Let's talk.
