About the Role

As a Health Data Analyst, you will provide critical analysis of health service activity and performance across Health New Zealand. Your work will support key directorates including Hospital & Specialist Services and Commissioning, while also informing high-profile outputs for Parliament, the Ministry of Health, media enquiries, and Official Information Act (OIA) requests.

This is a fast-paced and influential role where you'll work with complex, multi-source datasets to uncover insights, identify trends, and support evidence-based decision-making. From exploratory analysis through to dashboards and formal reporting, your work will help shape policy, improve system performance, and contribute to better health outcomes for New Zealanders.

You'll collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organisation and sector, ensuring reporting is accurate, relevant, and aligned to decision-maker needs—while contributing to continuous improvement in data quality, tools, and analytical practices.

About you

You're a curious and detail-oriented analyst who enjoys working with complex data and translating it into meaningful insights. You're confident engaging with stakeholders and thrive in a fast-paced environment where your work has real impact.

You will bring:

• A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. data science, statistics, business analysis or similar)
• Demonstrated experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
• 3-5 years' experience in a similar analytics role within a large organisation
• Strong understanding of analytics principles and how they create value
• Proven experience working with complex datasets and delivering high-quality insights
• Skills in data visualisation and reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Qlik, SQL, Excel)
• Ability to communicate insights clearly to a range of audiences
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
• Critical thinking, sound judgement, and attention to detail

Ideally, you'll also have:

• Knowledge of the New Zealand health sector and government environment
• Experience with BI tools, data warehousing concepts, and advanced analytics techniques
