HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT, OPERATION THEATRE
Summary
Assists nurses in an operating theatre by preparing equipment, tidying wards, transporting patients, and performing basic care tasks in a Malaysian hospital.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Provide basic nursing care in accordance with established standards, work collaboratively with team members, and report any incidents or issues to relevant authorities to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
JOB DESCRIPTION
ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
Notify the nursing leaders of any situation that impacts the quality of care.
Obtain ward report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks assigned by the Unit Manager or Assistant Unit Manager.
Daily routine:
Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate with them and their families.
Prepares and tidies patients’ beds and linens as needed and organizes patients’ belongings as well as furniture.
Disinfect the beds, furniture, and equipment after utilizing them.
Keeps the ward, store, fridge, and its facilities clean and tidy.
Assist the patient with Activities of Daily Living
Answer phone calls and relay messages.
Attendants to patients call the bell promptly.
Assist trained staff in transporting patients to and from the operating theatre.
Escorts patients to other services for diagnostic tests and from the ward to other areas upon discharge.
Dispatches specimens to the laboratory and collects results
Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations.
Send out portable oxygen tanks for refilling or exchange, ensuring a continuous supply for emergency needs.
Assists the trained staff in various aspects:
Carried out of nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, discharge, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc.
Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after using and stores them properly.
Records the daily charges for the items used in the ward and update the patients’ charges accordingly.
Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely
Accompanies the consultant in performing procedures and rounds in the absence of trained nurses.
Attend meetings held by the service
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia
Certified healthcare assistants would be a priority.
knowledge and experiences:
Experience working in a hospital setting is an advantage

Basic Life Support
special skills required
Able to converse fluently and write in English language and Bahasa Malaysia

Willingness to work on scheduled hours, shifts and weekends, public holidays and any time called during an emergency.
