Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Resources - Learning & Development is in search of a HR Learning and Development Intern.
The internship will provide an effective transition from the classroom to professional setting. The supervised leadership experience provides students with the opportunity to test classroom theories, concepts, and philosophies in realistic situations under the guidance and supervision of dedicated professionals.
Duties include:
- Provides administrative and operational support for the Learning & Development (L&D) division.
- Assists with the coordination and preparation of employee training programs, classes, workshops, and learning events.
- Provides basic support for the Learning Management System (LMS), which may include: scheduling, registrations, attendance, completion records, and responding to routine user questions.
- Assists employees with basic LMS navigation and training-related questions and directs more complex issues to appropriate L&D staff.
- Prepares training rooms, materials, technology, equipment, handouts, and other resources needed for classes and learning events.
- Supports L&D staff and instructors before, during, and after training sessions.
- Assists with presentations and facilitation of training activities and may present designated content of training as proficiency develops.
- Answers incoming telephone calls, greets visitors, and provides professional customer service and general assistance.
- Assists with training communications, scheduling, correspondence, data entry, reporting, recordkeeping, and other administrative functions.
- Assists with collecting training evaluations, participant feedback, and other information used to support L&D programs.
- Supports L&D projects, initiatives, and special assignments as needed.
- Assists in developing marketing and outreach materials for L&D training classes and programs and events.
- Develops knowledge and proficiency in L&D practices, training coordination, facilitation, presentation skills, LMS administration, and other related functions through hands-on experience and coaching.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Degree Requirements:
An active degree seeking student in one of the preferred majors or areas of study such as; Human Resources, Human Resource Development, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Education, Adult Learning, Instructional Design, Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, or a related field.
