Human Resources Generalist - Northern California

Golden State Dermatology is a physician-led and owned dermatology group rapidly expanding across the western United States, with more than 50 clinics across four states. We are a leading medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology group specializing in skin, hair, and nail conditions, Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of skin cancer, surgical and non-surgical cosmetic skincare, anti-aging, body contouring, and plastic surgery.


This is a hands-on Human Resources Generalist role for someone who enjoys employee relations, problem-solving, supporting managers, and building strong relationships across multiple locations. The ideal candidate is approachable, organized, confident handling day-to-day HR matters, and knows when to escalate more complex or sensitive issues.


This position will primarily support our Northern California locations and may be based in either the Walnut Creek or Sacramento area. The role follows a hybrid schedule requiring three days per week on-site, with two remote workdays. Regular travel to Golden State Dermatology clinics throughout Northern California will be required based on business needs. Candidates should live within a reasonable commuting distance of either Walnut Creek or Sacramento.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for assigned Northern California clinics and build strong relationships with employees, managers, providers, and operational leaders.
  • Respond to employee questions, concerns, and general HR needs in a timely, professional, and confidential manner.
  • Support managers with employee relations matters, including performance concerns, attendance, workplace conduct, communication issues, and policy interpretation.
  • Assist with workplace investigations by gathering information, conducting interviews, preparing documentation, and partnering with the HR Director on resolution.
  • Coach managers on appropriate documentation, corrective action, performance management, and employee conversations.
  • Partner with clinic leaders to promote consistent application of company policies and HR practices across locations.
  • Identify potential employee relations or compliance concerns and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Act as a liaison between employees, managers, and other HR functions including Payroll, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Compliance, and HR Operations.
  • Support workers’ compensation claims and communication between employees, clinics, insurance providers, and internal partners.
  • Maintain working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices, with a strong focus on California employment requirements.
  • Conduct regular clinic visits throughout Northern California to support employees and managers, strengthen relationships, and address workplace concerns.
  • Support HR initiatives including onboarding, employee engagement, policy implementation, acquisitions, new clinic integrations, and other projects as assigned.
  • Assist with HR needs related to the organization’s continued growth and expansion across multiple states.


Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of HR Generalist or related HR experience
  • Experience supporting employee relations matters and coaching managers through day-to-day employee issues
  • Sound judgment and the ability to recognize when an issue should be escalated.
  • Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and employee matters simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing, multi-location environment.
  • Ability to work on-site three days per week and remotely two days per week.
  • Ability to travel throughout Northern California on an as-needed basis.
  • Candidates should live within reasonable commuting distance of either Walnut Creek or Sacramento.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience in healthcare, multi-site, or fast-growing organizations strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with employees, managers, providers, and operational leaders.
