ICT Product Owner - Lead an AI enhanced development squad!

Discussion
  • Auckland CBD with hybrid working
  • Lead a collaborative and engaged development squad
  • Permanent and contract opportunities available!
This is a hands-on product and delivery leadership role with responsibility for shaping, sequencing and delivering the squad’s committed work.

You’ll own the backlog, requirements and user stories, working closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translating these into clear, achievable work for the development squad.

You’ll partner with a Senior Software Engineer / Squad Tech Lead who owns technical direction, while you take responsibility for product value, delivery priorities, stakeholder alignment and leadership of a squad of approximately 5–7 people.

The environment uses AI to accelerate software development, creating shorter development and feedback cycles. You’ll need to be comfortable with rapid prototyping, testing and iteration.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
  • 7+ years' experience in product ownership, product management or senior business analysis, including leading delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a product domain end to end, discovery, requirements definition, delivery, adoption and benefits.
  • Strong stakeholder management: negotiating priorities, saying no with reasons, and communicating trade-offs credibly to senior audiences.
  • Experience supporting user acceptance testing and business change: defining test scenarios against requirements, and helping the business adopt change through training, documentation and process handover.
  • Experience line-managing or leading multidisciplinary teams, with a genuine investment in growing people.
  • Working technical literacy: able to engage credibly with engineers on feasibility, dependencies and risk (this is not a coding role).
  • Understanding of AI-assisted and AI-accelerated development, and the judgement to exploit its pace: rapid prototyping, short feedback loops and cheap experiments before large commitments.
  • Strong customer and user focus: user research, usability fundamentals and data-informed decision making, carrying the user's voice in a squad without a dedicated designer.
  • Analytical capability: defining measures of success and interpreting product and delivery data.
  • Agile delivery experience (Scrum, Kanban or similar), including full ownership of a backlog and writing user stories and acceptance criteria precise enough to drive AI-accelerated delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
