In House Legal Manager / Legal Counsel (Construction)

Our client is a well-established player in the building and construction industry and is looking for a Legal Manager / Legal Counsel to provide legal support across construction projects, commercial transactions, and corporate matters.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on construction, commercial, and corporate matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate construction and commercial contracts, including Main Contracts, Subcontracts, Consultancy Agreements, Supply Agreements, NDAs, MOUs, and Joint Venture Agreements.
  • Advise project teams on contractual obligations, variations, Extension of Time (EOT), claims, disputes, defects, and payment matters.
  • Identify legal and commercial risks and recommend practical risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage contractual claims, arbitration, adjudication, litigation, and external legal counsel where required.
  • Support tender reviews and contract negotiations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Conduct legal awareness training and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in the building construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, or EPC industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction law, contract law, and commercial legal matters.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating construction contracts such as FIDIC, PSSCOC, SIA, NEC, JCT, or other standard forms.
  • Proven experience in contract drafting, negotiation, claims, dispute resolution, and risk management.
  • Experience supporting large-scale building or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with arbitration, adjudication, and construction-related disputes.
  • Qualification to practise law in Singapore or another common law jurisdiction will be an advantage.
