Information Security Specialist

Emergency Programs Division manages the Operations Center and provides international, national, and regional situational awareness including providing and maintaining current information systems technology and national security systems to support USDA crisis management capability and facilitate inter-agency crisis coordination. The incumbent provides authoritative advice and assistance to officials on all aspects of security program implementation with primary focus on Information Security.

Responsible for the administration and management of the SCI Program and maintains security cognizance over all SCI functions.

Conducts studies, analyzes, and projects to develop information, systems, methods, technologies, and procedures for USDA program development and implementation.

Conducts evaluations of complex programs and projects involving personnel, classified systems and materials, equipment, and facilities.

Independently develops, plans, and implements INFOSEC policies and procedures affecting programs and operations to ensure that classified material is received, transmitted, handled, stored and accounted for.

Reviews, analyze, and makes recommendations to higher level security specialists on policy and procedures impacting security administration and objectives.

Ensures security classification guides are drafted, distributed and maintained.

Oversees the receipt, storage, transfer and destruction of classified material.

Plans, develops and implements information security policies and procedures for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) mission/activities within USDA.

Maintains continuous contact with members of the security community to ensure awareness of new program, policy, regulations or state-of-the-art technology.
