Infrastructure, Security & Support Lead
Summary
Lead the infrastructure, security and IT support pillar at Ringers Western, owning the network across HQ, warehouse and stores, delivering the security remediation programme, managing cloud identity/endpoint tooling and vendors, and supervising a support team member. Mostly hands-on networking, firewall and security delivery work with mentoring from the Head of Technology.
Ringers Western is growing fast, and our technology team is growing with it. We are looking for an Infrastructure, Security & Support Lead to own one of the three pillars of our tech department: the network, the infrastructure, the security programme and the IT support service that keeps HQ, our distribution centre and every store trading. This is the role for someone who has spent two or three years on a service desk, most likely at a manage device provider, moved into networks and security, been part of a security improvement programme, and is now ready to own it rather than execute someone else's plan. You will get that ownership from day one, with direct mentoring from the Head of Technology, vendor partners and a business growing quickly enough that the scope keeps growing with you.
About the role
You own the network across HQ, the warehouse and our stores. Every device the business runs on. The security remediation programme coming out of our recent cybersecurity assessment. Our IT partner, internet and telco relationships. The technology build for every new store we open. And the IT support service itself, including supervising and developing our Support Team Member.
It is a genuine mix of hands-on work and ownership. Some weeks you are deep in a firewall rule set or standing up a new store. Others you are chairing the monthly risk and security review, holding a vendor to their dates, or building the case for the next piece of investment.
Key responsibilities
• Support service: own the quality of IT support to HQ, the distribution centre and all stores. Supervise,
coach and develop the Support Team Member, run the daily stand-up, and own service levels and the
quality gate on completed work
• Security: deliver our security remediation programme in conjunction with the vendor against the control
framework we have adopted, using internal resources or our IT partner as appropriate. Own identity
hardening, multi-factor authentication, privileged access, endpoint compliance and security monitoring
• Network: own the health, security and performance of the network at every site, covering gateways,
switches, access points, segmentation, firewalls, internet and failover. Monitor proactively and improve
progressively
• Infrastructure: own cabling, communications racks and physical infrastructure at HQ, the warehouse and
stores, including contracted work
• Hardware: own the full lifecycle of company and employee-issued equipment, the asset register, the fleet
standard, and deployment through to confirmed in use
• Vendors: own the IT partner relationship, plus internet, telephony, mobile and hardware suppliers, and
hold them to scope, dates and quality
• New stores: own the technology rollout end to end, from site plan to trading day, and build it into a
repeatable standard
• Documentation: own the documentation standard, and the handover project teams must provide before
anything reaches productionz
About you
• 2 to 3 years in network and/or security ideally in a managed service provider or multi-client environment
• Prior service desk experience, preferably level 2 or higher, ideally in a managed service provider or multi-
client environment
• Clear progression out of the service desk into hands-on network and infrastructure ownership
• Diligent and detail oriented. You close the loop without being chased, and you notice the small
discrepancy before it becomes an outage
• Personable. Store and HQ team members find you easy to approach, and you are patient with people who
are not technical
• Strong networking capability: switching, segmentation, firewall rules, wireless design and
troubleshooting, remote access and core network services
• Real security delivery experience. You have implemented controls as part of a hardening or improvement
programme, not just read the report
• Cloud identity and endpoint management, including administration of a major cloud identity platform
and a device management platform
• Vendor management. You have held a supplier or partner to account on scope, defects and dates
• Operating discipline: ticketing hygiene, service levels, and documentation as a habit, using an established
service management and knowledge platform
• Diagnostic rigour. You can explain how you reached a conclusion and how you confirmed it, and you are
comfortable saying a cause is not yet established
Nice to have
• Recognised industry certification in networking, security or IT operations
• Practical exposure to a recognised security control framework
• Retail, hospitality or multi-site operations, where you understand that a store cannot trade when the
network is down
• Warehouse or distribution centre environment, covering radio coverage, scanning and label printing
• Retail point-of-sale platform experience
• Structured cabling and fit-out coordination
• Supervisory, leadership or management experience. We are not looking for a senior people leader, but we
are looking for someone ready to become one
Why join us
• Ownership of a department pillar from day one, in a business growing quickly enough that the role will
grow with you
• Direct mentoring from the Head of Technology across strategy, architecture, vendor negotiation and the
commercial side of technology, not just the technical
• A real programme to deliver, with the backing to deliver it, rather than keeping the lights on
• Variety. Networks, security, hardware, vendors, store rollouts and support. No two days look the same
• Support for certification and structured learning
• Laptop and equipment provided
• Generous staff discount on Ringers products
