Interior Technical Designer

Schmidt Hammer Lassen is seeking an Interior Technical Designer to join our Shanghai studio. The successful candidate will lead technical execution of interiors within our Architecture projects across Science, Technology, Commercial, Cultural, Workplace and Healthcare.

Working closely with project teams, you will develop design concepts into well-resolved, buildable solutions, ensuring design quality is maintained throughout the design and construction process. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate complex challenges related to geometry, materials, and construction, balancing design intent with project requirements and practical delivery considerations.

Please note that while this position primarily focuses on technical aspects of interior design, all team members are expected to contribute to various facets of our projects as needed. This may include, but is not limited to, taking on design or technical tasks outside your primary area of focus. Flexibility and a collaborative spirit are key components of our team dynamic, ensuring that we deliver comprehensive and cohesive design solutions to our clients.

Proficiencies

• Knowledge of local building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications, and construction techniques.
• Translate the design concept from the CONCEPT/SD phase into a technically feasible and buildable solution, ensuring that the design intent is fully preserved and not compromised, while assessing the overall constructability of the design.
• Experienced in resolving conflicts between complex design forms, material details, and practical implementation, while collaborating with the design team to find the right balance between design intent and construction feasibility.
• Experience in construction document preparation and field observation
• Experience in and demonstrated commitment to sustainable building practices
• BIM
• Programming, planning, and site analysis
• Preliminary design studies
