Ship real Shopify Plus work for ANZ's most ambitious brands, with a senior team behind you.
Atlas Studios is a Shopify Plus Partner agency based in Takapuna, Auckland. We're a senior team of strategists, designers, developers and marketers working with mid-market and enterprise D2C, retail and B2B brands across Australia and New Zealand. Our mission is to be the standard the industry measures itself against.
We're looking for an Intermediate Shopify Developer who builds well, ships often, and is confident using modern tooling, including AI, to work efficiently.
The role
You'll build, extend and maintain Shopify and Shopify Plus storefronts across a portfolio of client accounts: themes, custom apps, checkout UI extensions, Shopify Functions, and integrations with ERPs, 3PLs, Klaviyo and the rest of a client's stack.
We're a Shopify agency first. AI is part of how we work efficiently, not what we sell. You'll have Claude Code, internal tooling and documented client context available, and we expect you to be comfortable using them to scaffold, test and document faster, and to know where they get things wrong.
You'll report to our Head of Delivery and work closely with Delivery Managers, senior developers, our Solutions Architect and our UI/UX team. Over time, the path is Senior Developer: owning technical direction on client accounts, leading builds end-to-end, and mentoring the developers who join after you.
What you'll do
Build and extend Online Store 2.0 themes to a high standard of performance, accessibility and merchant editability
Develop custom apps, checkout extensions, Shopify Functions and integrations using Admin and Storefront GraphQL, webhooks and metaobjects
Use AI-assisted tooling such as Claude Code to work efficiently, and share what works with the team
Own quality through clean git practice, reviewable pull requests, proper staging and QA
Estimate your own work, break it into tickets, and flag risk early
Explain technical trade-offs in plain English to Delivery Managers and clients
Keep technical decisions and client context documented in our internal AI systems
About you
2 to 4 years of hands-on Shopify development, with live stores or apps you can talk through in detail
Strong Liquid, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML and CSS, and comfort in React
Working knowledge of Shopify's GraphQL APIs, webhooks, metafields and the app lifecycle
Confidence using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar) as part of your normal workflow
Confident git practice and experience in a reviewed team codebase
Clear written communication and care for craft
Comfortable with pace and imperfect information
Nice to have: Shopify Functions, Hydrogen or headless builds; experience building MCP servers or agentic workflows; Klaviyo or CRO; Shopify POS; B2B, ERP or 3PL integrations; Shopify Partner Academy certifications; agency experience.
What you can expect from us
Base salary of $90,000 to $105,000 depending on experience, reviewed on a clear quarterly cycle
Profit share at year's end
Paid developer tooling and subscriptions from day one
Annual wellbeing and reading funds
Paid birthday off and a paid mental health day each year
Quarterly Sharesies gift cards
Flexible WFH alongside our sunny Takapuna office, plus a paid car park
Straight feedback, early, and no surprises at review time
A senior, tight-knit team and a founder who will champion your development
Is this you?
It probably is if you've got a couple of years of Shopify under your belt, you're comfortable using modern tooling to work efficiently, and you want a studio with the pay, autonomy and calibre of colleagues to match.
It probably isn't if you prefer a slower cadence, a role where other people make the technical calls, or would rather work through a ticket queue than own the outcome.
How to apply
Our process is straightforward: an informal conversation to get to know you, then a technical conversation where you walk us through work you've shipped. No whiteboard puzzles, no take-home homework.
Apply with your CV, a link to a Shopify store, app or repo you're proud of, and a short note about a build or fix you're proud of and how you approached it. That note will tell us more than any cover letter.
Atlas Studios is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
