What this Department does:

We're looking for a Fundamentals Analyst Intern to join our team for Summer 2027. This is a hands-on role for a curious, analytically-minded student who wants to apply economic thinking to real energy markets. You'll work alongside our analysts to understand what drives regional natural gas markets, sharpen how we manage our data, and help turn analysis into clear, actionable reporting.

If you enjoy connecting economic theory to the way markets actually behave, this role is for you.

You can expect to do:

  • Regional Natural Gas Fundamentals — Track and analyze the supply, demand, storage, and flow dynamics that move regional natural gas markets. Apply economic reasoning to explain price movements, basis differentials, and shifts in market balance.
  • Data Organization & Optimization — Help build and maintain clean, well-structured datasets. Identify inefficiencies in how we collect, store, and access data, and propose improvements that make our analysis faster and more reliable.
  • Report Development — Contribute to recurring and ad-hoc reports that translate complex fundamentals into concise, decision-ready insights for internal and external audiences.

What you will learn:

  • Learning a basic understanding of energy markets and fundamentals.
  • You'll gain real exposure to energy market analysis, develop practical data skills, and see how economic fundamentals drive commodity markets—experience that translates directly to a career in analysis, trading, or research.

  • Learn advanced data optimization techniques.

What you will bring:

Education:

Student actively enrolled in an approved Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program with expected graduation date of December 2026- May 2028.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Working toward a Bachelors or Masters degree in Economics (or a related quantitative field), Statistics, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Business or Computer Science
  • Solid grasp of core economic concepts—supply and demand, price signals, and market equilibrium—and interest in applying them to commodity markets
  • Comfort working with data (Excel required; Python, SQL, or similar a plus)
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail
  • Curiosity about energy markets and a willingness to dig into the "why" behind the numbers

What else do you need to know:

  • Our internships are temporary full-time positions, in-person/remote hybrid at our Lakewood, CO. office. We will host our Summer 2027 interns from May-August for 10 weeks.

Compensation And Other Benefits

  • Pay Range $24.81-$37.09 USD hourly.
  • The final pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include: paid time off, a housing stipend, and more.
