About the Role

Narrative seeks an IT Administrator to join our Washington, DC office and play a key role in maintaining, supporting, and improving the organization’s technology environment. Reporting to the Director of IT, this position will serve as a point of contact for employees and will be responsible for the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of day-to-day IT services.

The IT Administrator will provide hands-on and remote support across hardware, software, identity and access management, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, office technology, and IT operations. Beyond day-to-day issues, this role will take ownership of IT processes and systems and work closely with the Director of IT on longer-term projects, system implementations, upgrades, security initiatives, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

IT Operations & End-User Support

  • Serve as the escalation point for employee IT support, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, connectivity, and access issues in person and remotely, and engaging vendors when needed.
  • Install, configure, and replace laptops, monitors, peripherals, and other end-user technology.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and standardize conference room and meeting technology across offices, coordinating with vendors on installations, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Identify recurring issues and opportunities to automate or streamline IT processes.

Identity, Endpoints & Security

  • Administer Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, including user accounts, licensing, groups, and permissions.
  • Manage onboarding, offboarding, and role changes, ensuring access is granted or removed promptly and securely.
  • Manage Mac endpoints through Jamf and ABM, including configuration, software deployment, security policies, and lifecycle management.
  • Support security initiatives, including endpoint protection, MFA, access controls, and patching.

Projects & Process Improvement

  • Partner with the Director of IT on technology standards, policies, and longer-term projects, including implementations, upgrades, migrations, and office expansions.
  • Independently manage assigned projects, from requirements and timelines through testing and status updates.
  • Research new technologies and recommend solutions based on business needs, security, usability, and cost.
  • Maintain technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge-base materials.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

About the Ideal Candidate

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in IT administration, systems administration, or a related technology role.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration skills, including identity and access management, licensing, groups, MFA, and security features.
  • Experience supporting macOS environments with Jamf and ABM (Apple Business Manager), including endpoint security, networking, peripherals, and SaaS applications. Windows familiarity a plus.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues independently and to manage IT projects from planning through completion.
  • Strong sense of ownership and follow-through, with the ability to balance support requests and longer-term projects.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical staff.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to other Narrative offices and to work some evenings or weekends as needed.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell or Bash) for automation.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Jamf 100/200, Microsoft MS-102 or MD-102, or Apple Certified Support Professional.
